Correct Pronounciation of the word Aspergers?

Hi.

So, I've been wondering about this for awhile now, I just kept forgettting to ask. How is Aspergers actually pronounced? I've heard it pronounced 2 different ways: Aus-per-gers (The "aus" being like the beginning of Austria) and As-per-gers (The "as" being like the word as). So, which is the proper way? Or is it something entirely different?

Ass Burgers is the correct pronounciation.

me too. Im kind of befuddled. I know my counselor says it. But I havent seen her in awhile, and my thoughts were elsewhere. Maybe if we called it Kanners, and just made a citation about Asperger..

I've actually wondered that question myself, but I tend to say the "as" as "as," as "as" is the first phonetic sound that comes to mind. ...And I can't say I've ever used the same word five times in a row in a grammatically-correct sentence, but I guess you do something new every day, right?

First of all, I don't know why you'd use the aw vowel of Austria, on, off, or law for the a in Asperger's. I use the "short o" vowel of pot, father, and ah for this vowel since that is the closest English-language vowel to the German a. The "short a" vowel of words like as, ass, bat, and apple is sometimes also heard, but using a "short a" vowel makes it sound like "ass burgers," which sounds rather unpleasant.

I tend to use <ass-per-jer> pronunciation myself.

Half the time I say "Aspergers" I pause in the middle because I think I'm pronouncing it wrong.
