The officially accepted year when AS became known about in the UK and the US was 1991 when Hans Asperger's papers on the subject were translated into English but AS was known about by psychologists in German speaking countries many years before then. Israel is in a unique position in that it has large numbers of immigrants of German and Austrian origin which arrived post WWII where some of them could have had knowledge about the work of Hans Asperger. When exactly was AS officially known about in Israel and is there any evidence that there was knowledge in Israel about it before 1991?

I do not know about in Israel but it was first the UK knew a lot about AS and "HF" autism, then in the late '90s the AS diagnosis really became widespread in the US. And then it was after that, that it started spreading to other countries for example continental Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Since Israel is probably culturally related to continental Europe and Southwest Asia more than to the Anglosphere (Just my conjecture. I know very little about Israeli culture), I would say it would have to be in the late, late '90s or early 00s.

Why don't go e-mail an autism charity in Israel?

...Or treat us Israelis with respect that we might want to answer.
