I have noticed that I take on certain characteristics of people I am obsessed with at any given time, its not something I choose to do, but I notice my physical movements and facial expressions are the same as the person I am interested in not completely but I do notice the difference. I think it must be quite funny because I was obsessed with Robert Carlyle and started using Scottish terms :)

somewhat more disturbing is that my opinions also become similar with the person I like at the time, I have come to the conclusion that I am hugely fickle and am swayed easily by people/characters that feature as my special interest.

anyone else finds this happens?

Moreso when I was younger. Now it's easier not to do that now to the degree that I have done it in the past but I still naturally mimic to a good bit. It can be draining though and can make socializing more tiring than I realize. This is very much one of the classic traits of Autistic girls from what I have read.

I did this for most, if not all of my life so far. In childhood, it was mostly celebrities or fictional characters. Now, it has extended to everyday people. It usually occurs with characters/people that I already see a part of myself in. I use it as a way to explore parts of me that I feel may be innate in an effort to try and find the right fit for my own personality/views. If anything, my involvement in this behavior stems from a lifelong desire to be a television actress.

Well... this is anyone really.

I copy people's habits. One of my friends has a nail biting habit and he only bites his ring and index finger. I developed the same habit over the years I have spent with him. It's normal I guess.

yeah I had thought that it might be quite common with people you spend time with to take on certain habits, but with the people I am interested changing quite a bit I wonder how much I change to other people.

what I don't like is taking on different opinions because of the person I am interested in because I know that when I lose interest the opinions will become unimportant which I feel is quite shallow of me.

I had the belief that I am inferior and undeserving beaten into me for such a long time that it's a part of my soul. Not as powerful as it once was; but, defiantly still there. So when I see someone (real or imagined) who seems to be a good person, plays well with others and knows s**t from apple butter; of course I'm going to do my best to mimic them. In a lot of ways I truly am a self made man and I'm always looking for better parts.

I did this for a very long time. I am 40 now. Now the most I tend to do is simply pronounce words or have an accent when talking to people with accents. I still do a lot of quotes from people on movies, but for the most part it is not as bad as when I was young.

I think I understand what you mean. I used to try to fit in by deliberately constructing a persona out of parts of popular culture which I found interesting. Now I'm older, I feel a little more "me", and also I know what my values are so I don't really do this so much any more.

It's important to pick the right people, though it can be very difficult to know who the right people are. I went down a very bad track with Trainspotting that was not cool. I think picking a gender appropriate model is a good idea too, It took me a while to work that one out.

Bear Grylls is super awesome. I'm also a big fan of Mark Driscoll, though I don't agree with everything he says, mainly the parts about stepping up and protecting your family.

Not much these days.

I used to try to emulate Madonna, but that was an intentional thing. I was a fan.

I also used to mimic lee evans sometimes but again I am a fan. He is funny.

Yes, that's very much true. I am currently interested in Sherlock Holmes. Acquired a Britsh accent (not sure which...)and all.

Count me in, sort of. I've wondered for a while if other aspies do this. I don't obsess on people. But I'll mimick ppl I have to be around a lot, like at work. I pick up wear off once I'm not around those ppl.

I think this actually normal. Everyone does this and it's actually ASD people who don't do this. But everyone with it is different so we aren't going to have all the symptoms. But what may be interesting is if this only happens to you if it's only someone you're obsessed with and care about.

I have copied movie characters before and real life people. For one I used to laugh when everyone else would laugh. That would sometimes backfire because sometimes people laugh for the wrong reason and I end up being just as bad so I learned to only laugh if I find something funny, not do it because everyone else is.

I have lived in several parts of the USA and my accent changes to match whoever I am with.

Also, I use lot of phrases I've picked up from movies and unintentionally sound like the characters on the movies.

I usually mimic the contestants on tv game shows. I don't know I'm doing it until I actually hear myself doing it.
