I was thinking about sensory overload before (as I don't experience it, at least in the obvious, incredibly debilitating ways some of you do) and I remembered a game I used to play, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In that game if you (Samus) are exposed to lethal amounts of 'phazon' you are put into a state called 'Hypermode'. To me, this looked like a depiction of sensory overload experienced by some individuals with autism.
I couldn't really find a good video of it on YouTube and the one I have attached here shows the state being selectively entered, so it isn't as accurate as I would have liked. I hope you can see the comparison though.
Samus enters a corrupting state (pre-overload) where vision and sound are distorted. The vision resembles a variation (of what I have read) of sensory overload manifesting itself.. there is a grey sort of haze with some details more concentrated on. The majority of audio fades away and sounds like heartbeat etc are much more audible. The first time it happens in the video the player exits hypermode by venting phazon (stimming) but the second time it happens corruption (sensory overload) is reached towards the end, and major auditory and visual distortions occur. Samus then dies in an aggressive way and is no longer in control in that she is transformed into an evil figure (Dark Samus) and thus no longer in control (meltdown). I suppose you could go on to add that in order to keep playing (moving on in life) you need time to rest and re-load from a safe point.
EDIT - I forgot to add, please note that at one point it says 'Corrupted. Cannot cancel hypermode'. I believe that could also refer to the senses being out of one's control. You can't just put them back in order.

To me, it's a fairly decent representation. Then again I don't experience it. I hope someone here can relate to it so I haven't wasted my time. XD
