My ASD
I am in the group of autistic people that had to memorize what seems like everything about the world.

I suspect people like me had a very painful growing up - enduring deriding comments about our intelligence.

I suspect autistic people like me endured:
- "You are naïve"
-"You lack common sense"
- One kid would say to me, "If I only had a brain .." (mimicking the scarecrow from the Wizard of OZ)
-"Lost in the sauce"
- Teacher : "You are not good at math, so I won't let you learn about computers".
- Teacher : Read my 10th grade English composition paper out loud to embarrass me, since I was nearly illiterate.
- Gym coach: Made jokes that I was dumb.
- Pervasive bullying/harassment by students because perceived as dumb

Other ASD people
Dr. Grandin says in one of her videos that she was called "tape recorder", and was bullied and harassed. Also, there are youtube videos of autistic people that say their ASD means having to memorize everything about the world (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIAILIg1-rM ).

Development Delay is inherent part of ASD?
It seems like not every autistic person has this "trait". Thus, is "developmental delay" due to needing to memorize information - a separate condition? Is it merely a "trait" or is this inherent in an ASD?

Observation 1
I suspect my former autism doctor was referring to this trait when he asked me, "Do you think you are intelligent? Since your brain is like a computer, and we don't think computers are intelligent, do we"?

Observation 2
Often here I see young autistic people on WP say, "I am not good at ..." or "My IQ is lower ..." Well , if you have to memorize everything then that would be expected? no one mentions that though.

Note: Dr. Grandin says in one her videos that it was not until age forty that she felt her "database of visual images" was big enough i.e., she was still needing to memorize information about the world until age forty to be reasonably functional using her picture retrieval brain function.

It appears you don't know much about autism

I suggest you read here ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism

There is no "weather causality".

Well if you are done insulting maybe you could ask why I said that instead of assuming that it was an attack or that I am stupid.

It seems like you are talking about concrete thinking. A concrete thinker focuses on details rather than the big picture; thus they lack the knowledge (patterns) and skills to infer things and have to rely on a series of more or less direct experiences, which are accumulated by memorization. I would characterize it as a different cognitive style rather than a developmental delay (particularly because "delay" implies that it will one day change to a more abstracting thinking style, which is not necessarily true), but of course psychology takes society's typical person (who has some abstraction abilities) as "normal" and categorizes others as somehow disordered in relation to that.

I think it's definitely not inherent to ASD because others with the condition are excellent abstract thinkers.

I tend to think of ASD as a condition of extremes:

some are non-verbal, others can barely stop monologuing
some or hypersensitive, others are hyposensitive
some are extreme concrete thinkers, some have amazing abstract thinking ability

I'm curious. Why did you say that?

You can delete your post and all the responses will disappear.

Bullying / harassment is serious. It is not a joke. We spoke about this last week on here. Someone was struggling with internal anger.

Thanks starkid.

I will have to research this. It is new ideas that I have never considered.

Since everything is an attack to the OP I would feel more comfortable (if you didn't mind) telling you through private message.
