Hi!

I've read a lot of posts from various individuals that claim that they can be so absorbed in something that they don't even notice when people open the door and walk into their room.

Rarely, if ever have I had this. In fact, I'm almost always experiencing the opposite - I seem to be too conscious of my external environment even if I'm focusing on something. I still lose track of time when I'm so absorbed into something and tend to forget/delay everything else that I'm suppose to be doing but I'll notice everything that happens around me, unless of course I'm in a self induced daydream/hibernation mode. Every creak in the house, every bug flying in my peripheral vision, someone walking towards my door from the kitchen etc. I actually noticed that I had this, what I call 'paranoid awareness' before even considering that Asperger's was possible. I would regularly note to myself that everyone else seemingly wouldn't notice that the teacher was approaching them at school, but I always would. I envisioned what I would be like if I were the teacher, and how easily I'd observe so many students doing the wrong thing. Apply that to a great many other scenarios.

This even applies to my own family. For example, I can talk to my sister and she'll be watching TV or texting, and she won't speak immediately. Neither will my mum, nor my dad. They will seem to not notice me. I'll always notice when someone talks to me, and often notice that they are probably going to even before they do. Perhaps it's some kind of preparation, I don't know. I'm really not sure what think about this.

Does anyone else experience this? If so, do you know what it is?

Side Note - When I say I notice something it's not that it completely distracts me, but it does if it's something important such as someone walking towards my door.

it can go either way for me. sometimes im very touchy and every little thing annoys me
when im busy doing something.
other times im oblivious to everything except for what im absorbed in.
i think it depends if its something i have to do like homework where i get easily annoyed and distracted.
And some personal interest or project where im oblivious to sounds, motion, temperature, having to pee etc.

I know this is irrelevant but I have an urge to point it out.

You got your 666th post, at exactly Tue Feb 11, 2014 6:00 pm, at least for the time it shows me.

When you say you are oblivious in having to pee, can that be to the extent that you don't even realize that you've wet yourself? If so, that's some intense, intense concentration. Also what if someone was shouting in your ear? Would you notice?

The prophecy has come true! All hail Ezra Prince of Darkness!

When i was littler i needed pullups. Now i sometimes start to lose it and then it finally registers and i tear myself away. but yeah, half pee myself and have to change. The passage of time is another thing im oblivious to.
Lots of times someone has to call my name loudly a few times and clap hands to snap me out of it.
But... if anyone touches me when im like that, i can go ballistic.

All I can say is thank god the internet wasn't invented sooner. Otherwise he may have posted his 666th post on the 6th hour of the 6th day of the sixth month of the year six sixty six!

At least we are not still in the Dark Ages.

I suppose it's fortunate, but here's the catch. The date where I am is 11/02/2014. Breakdown the date from right to left in groups of 2. Why groups of 2? There are 3 sections to the date, the day, the month and the year. 2 goes into 6.. 3 times, and therefore this somehow must make sense. Why right to left? Because Ezra is the dark lord's right hand man. Based on my advanced mathematical prowess, it is undeniable that the following proves the prophecy is in a permanent state of continuity.. see here:

14 + 20 = 34
34/2 = 17

Now tell me.. what is the difference between 11 (The day) and 17, and how many digits that are part of the date are in use before answering this?

...6.

Go ahead and try disprove me!

In order to stay on topic, I'd like to say that during this time I heard many birds squeaking behind me and I found it quite cute. I also heard my mum walking around in the kitchen, and various other clicking noises.

I certainly can get completely absorbed in a subject, but it doesn't mean I'm oblivious to my surroundings. Let us not forget that ASD presents itself with symptoms at the extreme (e.g. hyposensitivity or hypersensitivity, excellent maths skills or terrible maths skills).

Maybe some with ASD would be entirely oblivious to their surroundings when focusing on an interest; whereas with me, the slightest variation in temperature, sound, the continual itchiness of my skin, or the mere presence of some motion in the house is enough to distract me.

I love nighttime. I can get a lot of work done between ten p.m. and 1 a.m.
