Supportive/safe environment?
That's not what I've noticed here so far. Perhaps you can prove me wrong but I see a lot of people trying to prove that they're more "aspie" than the next.
Sorry not everyone or every post is your cup of tea.
Try being nice, accepting, understanding. Try not posting if you have nothing of value to contribute. We are all different, that's the fun part of being autistic.
I am sorry if I talk and post a lot. I spend 8 hours a day restraining myself from being me (at work) so when I post on here sometimes I post a lot or ramble on, I like to talk. I have no one at home to listen to me and I have no friends. So I'm sorry if you don't like my posts but you don't need to comment on them and be a jerk.
If anyone has ever talked to me before is because they like how I look, not what I have to say. Once I start talking they usually screw off.... Like the rest of them.
Imagine finding a forum online filled with ppl much like yourself and then being treated poorly there too... Imagine how that might make someone feel.
Yeah I noticed it too and I think it's damn stupid.
There are even people who get offended when you tell them they look well adjusted or not low-functioning. Like if being lower-functioning was better. Really, they're telling you that despite your disability you menage to do everyday stuff, it's a compliment, not something to be offended about. They're not doubting you have AS, they're just telling you you did a good job and improved.
This comes from someone who generally passes as not very high-functioning and has never been told she looks well adjusted/she has improved. I don't think people can understand what it's like.
Not that I am a prolific poster but value is relative. I mean what one finds interesting is boring to another and total and the biggest lie ever told to a third person.
It is not nice or understanding to pressume otherwise. Can you accept that?
I am not AS but definitly not NT either and little guz is diagnosed HFA btw and I am not having a poke at you.

I'm here to learn actually. had little guz not been diagnosed with HFA I probably would never have even registered. It's kindof funny how I recognize myself in so much said on here. Enough to have registered after I came to the conclusion I am not NT.
I post on very few forums, people are too fickle.
My talking to you has nothing to do with your picture. Yes it is loud but also very orange. What you said struck a raw nerve and I am commenting because you have addressed this post to all at WP.
Including the ones that really should be doing more constructive things. I'm off

I have seen meanness all over the internet, whether on yahoo message boards, edmunds.com, cbs.com when it had a msg board, various special interests. Not sure about sites aimed more at women, but guy ones, jeez.
Some how people get meaner when they are can't be discovered - forgot the word for it. Maybe anonymous?
I got myself ripped a new one when I asked a dumb question on one of those last December - guess I was supposed to use the search feature first.
My point is, I don't think is necessarily an ASD sort of thing there's just too much of it to peg it on people only on the spectrum.
I'm sorry you were attacked. No need to apologize for being who you are.
You will find support here. You will also be attacked here. It makes me angry when people are attacked when they reach out for support. Just ignore the people who are a**holes, or if someone hijacks your thread, gently try to bring it back on topic. Look for support from the nice people who post here.
Remember, people with AS are not good with emotional intelligence or social intelligence or empathy. We focus on logic and are quick to dismiss any ideas that don't make sense to us. That means many people here will not be able to see things from your perspective because they have AS. I've noticed that many WP members are quick to apologize if they feel like they have hurt your feelings. Others don't care. They care more about being factually correct.
I think some people try to bully other people on here because they have no other place where they can be at the top of the social hierarchy. I've noticed that people with AS are bullies too. We use intellect to bully people with facts and logic, try to browbeat others into seeing things our way. It's the same type of jockeying for position that NT's do but we do it differently. I am not saying this to justify someone being careless with their words or rude. I am just saying that it comes with the territory.
Once again, look for the nice people who will support you and ignore the a**holes.
There are a***holes in every community, though I think this place is generally much more supportive and accepting compared to other forums out in the wild...
Not everyone will agree with you or even like you. Be grateful for this.
Personally, I'd mourn the loss of contradiction if everyone started agreeing with one another. ![]()

I think some some feel it sets the standard of you have to be high functioning to be able to anything that requires intelligence. And that it disregards the worth of lower functioning people.
It like someone saying
" You cant be autistic! You have feelings!"
Or
"Your in special ed? But your so smart!"
Others feel like it undermines their daily struggles to deal with everything.
For me it depends on your intsion , how , and when/ what contex your saying it in.

am guessing somethings gone on today whilst was out,as havent seen poor treatment on the boards am on recently, and any that do see gets reported to mods.
being treated poorly has been a reality for many of us from here, especialy those of us who are classic autistic or PDDNOS.
the minority of aspies are highly vocal discriminatory elitists who judge others worth on their IQ.
have personaly been severerly bullied by a sockpuppeting user from here, was firstly targeted by them deliberately due to having intelectual disability and as a result; easily manipulated, was groomed and bullied over several years and followed across various other disability related forums,he also did incredible pyschological mirroring;he took on the life of mine via grooming and reading blog and even pretends to be victimised from bullies with exactly the same behaviors he was doing;typical projectionism and passing the buck for their pyschopathic behaviors.
was told to stay off wp because am to low iq to make posts of any worth and to stay out of debate type threads as well because made a mess of them, and am worthless to society.
his viciousness became a living hell and became severely depressed,
severely pyschotic, and suicidal, finaly leading to a sectioning last september in a intelectual disability hospital for four months and losing the residential home placement of mine,if had been able to communicate what was going on and understand quick enough this woud all never have happened, but this is why predators deliberately target the most vulnerable people.

@daydreamer,
yes,am still mentaly suffering now from the effects, luckily the mods coudnt be more helpful in understanding once they eventualy found out;the users most prolific account was instantly banned from wrong planet, but hes a very heavy sockpuppeter on here and other sites, had introduced a cousin of mine to a intelectual disability social network a while ago and if am not mistaken about it being his account;as soon as she joined he started attempting to groom her, so her dad got her off it,the mods are extremely strict on grooming on that site and will involve police if its reported/spotted.
we have even had a paedophile on here trying to groom underage individuals, wrong planet is a great resource but like any community online or in real life it isnt invicible from advantage taking scum.

So: what I've noticed is that there are all sorts here. Some are snide and acerbic. Some are deeply compassionate and open. Some are manipulative and some are narcissistic and self-involved. I really value the exchanges I have had with the inquisitive ones, the compassionate ones and the thoughtful ones.
I have learned to pay less attention to the ones who are trying to prove something.
I like the Parent's discussion board for anything to do with school or parenting issues. It's a very supportive environment over there.
I also like the In-Depth Adult Life discussion board.
Is it safe? It's the internet, so no. But there are some really good people here. There are certain people who I just don't read or pay attention to anymore and that improves my perception of the place.
