I got tired of waiting to travel to the US to get evaluated so I started searching for specialists in my city. Trust me, it was a hard task because there is no specialization in aspergers in here, at most classical autism (can you believe it that a famous psychologist here said isabelle in mozart and the whale can't have aspergers because she fell in love?? And a bunch more that said it is a psychosis or that we don't have empathy?) Finally I found that psychologist whose husband and daughter-in-law are aspies. I went there today and was officially evaluated and...

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I am am aspie!
Based on the tragic experiences of female aspies not being recognized I had thought it would be much worse and made a list of my traits in case I needed to convince her. But actually there was no need, she understands a lot of aspergers, she made the exact questions and antecipated my feelings and senses and I felt so relieved. we talked for an hour and she told me she thinks I have it!
I am sooo happy!! I feel like I can finally be myself! I am finally going to receive the help I need and I am freeeee to be who I am! And I am not crazy!
I love frozen so here is what I am feeling:

Aspergers never bothered me anyway!

added: for instance when I was talking about meltdowns: "so I went to the store and the cookie I always buy wasn't there" she said "oh no!" I finally felt understood!
and she told me to say "special interest" instead of "obsseasion". That was pretty cool too.

LOL congrats!! ! i imagine i would be feeling similarly in your shoes (and it looks like i might be getting evaluated sometime in the foreseeable future, looking forward to it, and imagine i will also be going in with a list)

Congrats on getting an answer and a confirmation of what you previously could only suspect -- that has to be a feeling of relief.

How funny that we celebrate getting a diagnosis! But I can empathize with the relief you feel at finally knowing why you are different and why you have such a hard time with some things. I hope this sets you firmly on the path to finding your own solution to life's little Aspie annoyances.

I always feel strange saying "congratulations," yes, but I also feel that what we are really "celebrating" is just the relief of the removal of a mystery. The worst thing undiagnosed people have to live with is wondering "Why?" Why am I strange, why do I have issues, why so many things. And to have doubt and fear, and for others to doubt us also. It's a crappy place to be.

Thus, finally getting a confirmation: "Yes. You are what you suspected you are. There IS a reason for the things you can't explain or even control in yourself" and all the other ways in which a confirmation puts a lot of things to rest, is certainly something to be pleased about because of the sheer relief, the end to the mystery. The end of wondering and doubting. And also the end of other people being able to tell you you're full of sh!t....

Congratulations on having a name to put on your handicaps. I'm still thinking of having my diagnosis papers framed and hanging them on the wall.

OTOH, my condolences on the confirmation that your disability can never be cured.

That's awesome news I'm really nervous because I should be getting my test results back in a week or so. I really hope my diagnostic endeavour will be a successful as yours!

On another note, Frozen is the best movie ever! I've seen it six times and counting, Elsa's my favourite because she sort of symbolically reminds me of an aspie

It makes sense to celebrate the diagnosis because of the understanding it brings. It's not about the symptoms, its about the framework for understanding the symptoms.

I have the receipt from my diagnosis in a frame on my dresser. This may sound crazy, but that document, with it's 299.80 code means so much to me. Realizing that this framework made sense out of so many things in all the years of my life was a stunning, shocking experience to go through. That little diagnostic code means all of that to me.

Congratulations on finding someone wiling to put the effort in and able to understand you. Enjoy it as it doesn't happen a lot in this world. I don't think it's the label that should be celebrated, it's the acceptance of you as you are that deserves to be celebrated.

I am diagnosed by seven doctors total, and my first visit I spoke with the assistant psychologist at the hospital for thirty minutes,
and the supervising psychologist talked to me for maybe ten minutes and diagnosed with autism, and prescribed me Resperdal.

yes, it is official because she is a specialist. I didn't get any papers though but I don't think I want it, I only wanted to know me better.
I too thought before the session that it would be much harder but apparently 1 hour was enough for her to recognize my traits, besides she is married to an aspie and has 15 years of experience. Plus she knew exactly what she was looking for, as I said, she made all the right questions.

For those that are going to be evaluated and/or are waiting for the results - good luck! I do think it is an important step.
I have a best friend that I think has aspergers and I never told her, but now I think I should because I can't deny her all this relief.

That's how it was for me too. I didn't have to explain all the little symptoms I tick, I was asked the right questions, and the assessment was easy. The only part I didn't like was when I was sent out of the room for him and the speech therapist to discuss my assessment, because there was a PC that was on in the room I was put in, and it was buzzing, and driving me mad. I was sat in there a good 5 minutes.

When I was taken back to the room, straight away he said I'm right in that females with ASD are not easily as recognised, and he was now to diagnosed me with ASD, as well as ADHD, and that he'll be sending a report out when he can.

I'm always glad to see someone here that's happy. Also, this post makes me realize how fortunate I am to have been diagnosed when I was 6 years old. After I was diagnosed, my mom got a bunch of books on asperger's and parenting aspie kids (some of which I read around the time I started highschool and thought were pretty cool) so, I didn't have a lot of the issues I imagine you did haviing grown up without the proper diagnosis.

I think a big part of why I was diagnosed so early is that I'm an american male. I've noticed that it's a lot easier to get a diagnosis of any type of neurological abnormality here than in most of Europe (where I assume you're from). Also, I know a lot more male aspies than female aspies... I'm not sure why that is though...

Well, I welcome you to the community and hope that this is helpful for you. Just remember that we are not our diagnosese. We have the potential to be whatever we choose to make of ourselves. Sure, I'm aspie and my diagnosese also include "social anxiety disorder", "dysthymia" with "mild levels of psychosocial stressors" and according to my last psychological evaluation, I have a GAF of 60, but I've been a number of things over the short period of time I've been alive and can be many more. The same applies to everyone else.

I don't know about whatever country you're from, but here in the US, there are a number of services available to people with certain diagnosese including ASD. I'd suggest you look into finding the services offered in your area just in case they have anything that apeals to you.
