How could "obsession with certain parts of objects" manifest in an adolescent or an adult?

am probably not the best for comparison but with self, have got a transformer toy that always carry around and will fold specific pieces back and forth back and forth back a..... and spin the wheels.
have got a steiff teddy bear that always carry around and will over and over.... fiddle with the hat and bell on its head.
will spin the RADAR key on autie friendly neck lanyard of mine [it holds a tangle jr, communication symbols etc].

I think so-called normal people also sonetimes focus on the parts of objects (no such thing as 'normal' anyway and how boring the world if there were! :jester:)

Bur somehow the way we on the spectrum do it is considered "wrong"

Yes, we all have the tendency to focus on one tree as opposed to seeing the whole forest. It's an aspie thing.
