I wish that someone had told me about thiis ages ago. I got diagnosed with IBS years ago and told that I had to live with it but after a short time of eating this stock I am better. I feel better. My ankle and knee that I damaged in the Air Force are better. People respond to me and have noticed a change. I have been told that I am calmer. In the past people would have cooked the bones to get the gelatin and collagen and all the natural vitamins and we don't do it today. So if you want to cure your leaky gut; try this.

Bone marrow has a ton of nutrients. If you eat beef you can bet beef bones from the butcher and make soup stock with them also it's very delicious.

Yes, my wife makes a lot of homemade soups and often gets bones from the butcher shop to boil in the soup. Her soups taste great and are very healthy I'm sure.

:D

I would love some of her recipes. I got a new crockpot recently and I would love to make all kinds of soups and stews. A hot bowl of stew is wonderful after a long day of skiing! :D

I am planning to make a stock out of a chicken carcus when I have finished with it. I don't have any herbs in though so it will have to be bland this time around.

For a crockpot on low:

Chicken carcass: 24 hours.
Beef bones: Up to 3 days. You get a really gelatinous stock this way. Remember to top it up with water each day.

Roasting all bones first produces a richer flavour. If you're going to add veggies, add them in the last 6 or so hours. I would season to taste afterwards.

That sounds great. Thanks. :D

You're welcome. :) For the vegetables, I meant adding them in the last 6 hours of cooking in the stockpot.

Oh. thank for for the clarification. I like making big batches of soups and stews and meals and then vacuum sealing them and freezing them. That way I don't have to cook a lot and also if my husband is hungry we have ready made healthy meals in the freezer. It's easy for him to grab one and just pop it in the microwave whenever he wants.

It is handy to do that. I'm planning to do the same, though in the summer I prefer colder, fresh food. We're going to have a heatwave tomorrow apparently. :?

It's handy to freeze stock into icecube trays so you can just drop them into whatever soup or stew you're making. I mean, stewing the beef bones for 3 days gives it such an intense flavour, you don't really need all that much of it at a time. I would let it cool down for a while in the fridge first before you pop it into icecube trays. Unless they're silicone, they'd probably melt or warp.

Most oriental supermarkets stock them - no pun intended - and the healthy properties have been know for a very long time. Excellent for the gut.

As an aside, both of my dogs love them; on hot days we give them to them frozen and they love a nice 'footsicle'. The raw food diet is amazing and far better than dry food.

I think the 'icky' factor is strong in this case, but well worth getting past if you can. Good call Madmick.

Ice cube stock, that is a great idea!
I also like to make iced tea ice cubes so that when I brew tea I can put them in the glasses and it does not dilute the tea as they melt.
