When I wake up, I am more depressed, despairing and sad than any other part of the day, usually. I was wondering about others here.

It happens to me when I spent the previous day and evening drinking alcohol.

That's interesting. I sometimes use alcohol in an effort to end my day early. Maybe, I have to pay for it in the morning.

I use alcohol less than I used to - these days, I read library books and sleep quite a lot (listening to the radio almost always sends me to sleep). Waking up at daybreak without a hangover is a good way to begin the day.

Mildly depressed, yes. Or maybe just weary that it's another day that will inevitably contain the same struggles and frustrations and coping challenges as the day before, and every day before that. I do feel bleak in the morning yeah.

I found if I plan on something I like in the morning, it helps.

It can be just having a banana with my cereal or taking a cool morning walk.

Then when I open my eyes in the morning, and remember, I have something nice to look forward to. :D

Sometimes if I wake up depressed or if something depresses me shortly after I wake up, I will go back to sleep for an hour so that I can try waking up again and sometimes that helps me a little because it feels like a fresh start.

Yes, that happens very often. On the days when I'm going to work, it's usually worse.

I also think that it's often caused by my deep raw sad feelings (about not having friends, about not having a successful career, about having failed in so many ways in life, about the bleak future, about worrying my parents and so on) that are usually hidden while I'm fully awake, becoming very intense in my dream. When I wake up, all those intense sad feelings that torture me in my dream linger for a while and make me depressed. Dreams often bring your subconscious feelings to the surface and you cannot control them. Well, I think that's the reason why I feel so depressed when I wake up.

Yes, I did before I went on anti-depressants. As soon as I woke up in the morning I felt depressed straight away, and just didn't want to get out of bed, especially if I had work. I just didn't want to exist any more, and was happiest when asleep. It was so hard to actually drag myself out of bed and get dressed. That's why I had to go on anti-depressants, and thank God they have worked; I don't feel depressed when waking up in the morning any more.

That happens to me fairly often, otherwise I might end up waking up kinda irritable.

I am depressed when I wake up but I'm not more depressed when I wake up than I am at other times of the day.

For me, it is at the end of the day. Right when I leave work, I wish that I felt some relief about being able to go home and relax, but I just feel more and more despondent about the fact that I just spent my day at a job that I really don't like. And if I don't find a way to alleviate some of that - I end up staying up all night...mind racing.

Morning is my favorite part of the day because there's still time to get everything done.

Maybe you're not a morning person and it's just being made worse by drinking yourself to sleep or poor diet?
