I live in LA, so obviously I can't take the bus everywhere, about half the city is a 30 minute walk to a bus stop. Tried driving a car, it's a bit much. Any usggestions? Are neighborhood electric vehicles good options?

A bicycle + the bus. If you have a documented disability, you might qualify for special options with the transportation department.

seconding the bicycle idea,if are unable to ride a two wheeler have a look into adult trikes, hand pedal trikes or semi recumbent bikes-these are amazing to ride.

one of the aspie lads in the community/independant living service of the last residential care company was under [if that makes any sense :P ] got everywhere on a crappy hard tail mountain bike despite the fact he lived in rural countryside,he went to towns near and wide on it.

what about a road legal quad bike/ATV,assuming the government in LA allow road legal ATVs,they do over here, not sure what it means though.

I third a bicycle.

Although, having said that, are you sure you can't persist with driving a car? You say you tried and it's a bit much, but perhaps if you keep trying and stick with it, things will get better. Driving a car, particularly in a big city, is daunting when you first do it, but it gets easier if you keep on doing it.

I have a motorized trike. 35cc, +20mph, 150mpg, 4-stroke high quality Japanese engine (Robins-Subaru). But it's very dangerous to ride in the streets. Lacks the power of a motorcycle, but you're still out there in the middle of everything.

You don't say exactly why the car was a bit much, but how would you be with a scooter? They would still get you around quickly but at the cost of the safety and cargo capability a car has. Much cheaper to own and operate, too.
