I just spent some time reading a stuttering forum to see what they have in
common with asd, because I imagined that the social difficulties could
be similar. They mention fear quite a bit as a factor

Recently I wondered if one way of explaining asd
would be "I can't speak body language" because I know one reason I
struggle socially is that people just find me weird in some way they
can't define.

Do you think aspies are actually "stuttering" in their body language?
That the years of struggling to keep up and being hurt by others
have given us a kind of "stutter" in this department?

Because I don't sense anything like this when I am alone, and I
hear that others feel the same way. Aspergers disappears as
soon as you close the door.

I know if I consciously try to relax around other people, the
thought comes to mind "that just presents as arrogant".

Is aspergers a kind of body-language stutter?

that is an interesting thought :chin: all I know is that my body language wires seem to be crossed, in the estimation of people who have discussed it with me. IOW I send out inappropriate signals more often than not. so I eventually just learned to stay still as a stone when talking to people. it is all I can do without phuqing it up.

Because it's body language related, I really don't know.

I also heard from some people my body language is not always in synch with my words and actions. Some adults have difficulties with this, especially adults who had training to 'read' body language. A manager I used to have was especially frustrated by this :D
Funny thing is that children below 12 have less difficulty with my body language, probably because they do not rely on it or can read easier on a 'deeper' level.

I have also been told that my speech does not match my body language
which mystified me for years. And of course there are all the other people
who must notice but not say anything or not formulate the thought.

Interesting that children don't have a problem with it, I know
that adult language learners are usually much more relaxed
around child speakers and make better progress. And I saw
on tv that autistic children who don't speak can develop their
skills by talking to dogs because of the lack of judgement.

Some people get over their stutter and I wonder if a person can get
over a stutter in body language too by similar means.

Bye the bye, does anyone have difficulty with action songs? I just can't do them,
my muscles freeze up and I feel terribly uncomfortable even among
people I have known for quite a while. It doesn't seem to improve
as I get into it either. I decided that I'd rather attract attention by
refusing to do the actions than attract attention by doing them.

It's terrible for me. But it does not help I have no feeling for rhythm :-) and terrible (fine) motor skills.
I'm always a bit behind or switch right and left.
