I just got diagnosed with Asperger's today. I already know that there are a lot of places online or in books that I can find information about ways to live better with Asperger's. However, I have a couple questions, the first one being: how can find a counselor who specializes in helping people with ASDs? I think it would help to have a professional I can talk to and who actually has real knowledge and experience with it; my past counselors haven't been extremely helpful. The psychologist who diagnosed me told me that one of the counselors there actually was diagnosed (by him) with Asperger's as well, but unfortunately that's like 2 hours from where I live, not to mention she doesn't even take my insurance. Is there somewhere I can do a search for other counselors like this?

Also, he told me he'd be sending me paperwork in the mail that would arrive next week, including the official diagnosis and some paperwork used for accommodations at college and university as well as in the workplace. Can anyone explain in more detail what is included in these, especially with the employment accommodations? He told me that with the employment accommodations that employers are supposed to provide them if requested but that many can't or just don't. If that's true, are there certain jobs I should go for? I wouldn't need a whole lot of accommodation if any, it would probably depend on the job. I feel like I'd do well at something like being a sales rep for a place like Best Buy. I'm not too bad with people, as long as I actually have something to talk about, and I am pretty knowledgeable on electronics. Plus, I think a job like that would have a pretty calm atmosphere, which would be a lot better than any other job I've had (all of which nearly fired me because I couldn't handle everything going on).

I'm pretty sure the only reason I still have my current job is because they are very short-handed and this is a very busy time for the business; I suspect as soon as it calms down and they have more employees, I will start getting written up for all the things I already do, like showing up late, forgetting and consequently breaking rules etc. A lot of the reason for showing up late is that I really dread going there every day, it's so noisy, and I get sprayed with water frequently and unexpectedly; by the end of the day I feel about ready to snap and kill the next guy who accidentally hits me with water. I sometimes yell at them when they do this; even though I know it's accidental, it still seems careless. Either that or I start bouncing and flapping my hands (angrily), which I'm sure looks very odd and I don't like doing it in front of people. Needless to say, I want to find a new job as soon as I can that will have decent pay (more than minimum wage) and will have more of a calm environment.

I'll say Gratz because this is something definite and concrete in a world full of fuzz.

It looks like a place called Crosspointe Family Services http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/r ... fid=163416 is in Twin Falls and offer therapies with people with Asperger's Syndrome. Other providers can be searched from the same link.
