When first arriving at WP, I saw the Game forum and thought, "That is one spot I won't be going!" I am at WP because I am an Aspie and one symptom is I never really like playing games with others. So I cried and commented in other sections for a long time ignoring the game forum.

Then I said, OK, give it a try. Now I find that is where I want to spend most of my time. Turning out, I do like games if they are designed and played by other Spectrumites.

Anyone else have this experience?

Sort of. When I was 13 I was at camp and they had this game I was sure I would hate. Not because I thought it would have too much socializing but because I thought it would have too much running around. I hate running. I sat out the first round and joined in the second and I loved it. I don't normally like games that involve physical movement but this was more of a stealth game than a running game so it was pretty good.

Anyway, it's such a common occurrence in life that we dread something we haven't tried and than love it after we've tried it.

I used to like games as a kid, but learned to dislike playing them with other people later on.
Apparently the object of the game is not to win, because that upsets other people.
I learned to just avoid games.

For me it depends on the game whether or not I like it....I like some video games, some board games, some card games ect. And I guess it would also depend on if I was playing with people I can have fun with or not, not having that would ruin any game you play with other people.

I like games that have a score and a goal (to win).

Interesting. I have never liked competitive games, even though I get a little punchy in my chatter. But suddenly I am watching chess videos (besides dropping in here for games). Not because I want to play chess. But because it is suddenly so interesting to learn the strategy. And I had chess players in the family and learned the moves as a child, but it never took root till now. Slow in so many ways. Or something.

i enjoy playing competitive games, but only with people i'm close with, video games and board games alike. with strangers i'm more reluctant because i never know how they would react, if they would rub it in my face or be an ass and a sore loser. the last thing i want to do is play with an a**hole.
i don't really like playing organized sports though, i'm not very physically adept, clumsy and i don't get all the rules.
that's why i chose track and field. just run.

Became proficient at the ancient Japanese/Chinese war strategy game of Go ( nothing to do with the English word "go", and its pronounced without that glide - its "go"-not "GOooooo") which is an interesting alternative to chess ( very different, but very comparable in sophistication).

Back in the precomputer, pre video, Seventies I designed a board game to simulate naval warfare in world war two ( battleships fighting each other). It used tables, and dice, and cardboard markers, (not totally original, but not totally copied). Both playing and tweeking the game became more addicting than crack.

Put it aside some years ago. Never got involved in this younger generation video game/xbox culture.
But if I DID get involved- if using non user friendly dice and cardboard markers was THAT addicting- then Xbox would probably be like crystal meth for me. Lethally addicting! So the games forum is the bad part of town that I avoid on WP ( the slum where the crack houses are, lol!)!
