Does anyone feel like they actually benefit and sort of crave the company of other human beings, in some way, even though most of the time your attempts to fit in come to naught or other people just make you feel bad and sad most of the time, like you don't belong? Like, the times when I've been with people I actually feel comfortable and safe with are always rewarding for me, but in the back of my mind I know it's not good to let myself be too happy about it, cuz then they'll leave just as I'm beginning to feel good around them or I'll do something stupid to make them hate me or not want to be with me any longer. Does anyone else feel like this? I wish I could either just take people or leave them, and have it just be either/or.

Let me see, if I understood your point... you like people company, but at the same time you're afraid because of the social mistakes you make. I know this feeling since... always. But It's hard to make friends/company, being an aspie or not, (yeess so much more for aspies :/). But I hope one day you'll find people that just like your company the way you are, all your "weirdness". I know it's hurt feeling you don't belong anywhere. But now follow my watchword that I'm using these days "I'm here, if people want my company, they'll come into me." (still doesn't work lol)
One think I know, is you are your best company, this is cliche, but also true.

I guess it would depend on yourself. I am, for example, actually not as introverted as I think I am, as it could be a learned response. I guess like a lot of people as a kid, I got singled out for being different, arguing with teachers etc, hence learned to avoid socialization at all costs.

Now that I luckily found a couple of mates that accepted me as who I am, I seemed to have broken down the façade a little. Not only do they make me aware of my socially inappropriate behaviour (and not get offended by it), having them around cheers me up. We can do sports and shite together. I guess learning to deal with NTs is easier when you have a couple who are open to you.

I still have my "alone" moments, as socializing is very tiring (TOO MUCH INFORMATION), but I am definitely happier than before. At least now when depression strikes, I got someone who isn't going to judge to talk to. Someone to turn to.

So IMO, I would say... yes. Homo sapiens are a social species after all. Yes, it's still scary when meeting new people (or people you think would ignore you starts engaging you in conversation), but after all those miserable years alone, I think it is worth it. Besides, you cannot avoid social interactions, so might as well at least get a bit comfortable with it.

Never give up, mate (or girl?!). There are billions of souls out there. Someone will love you (platonic or romantic) for who you truly are.

I am an introvert for the most part, and most of the time I really don't like dealing with other people, especially in large numbers. However, sometimes I get lonely and I crave companionship, but usually only with a small number of people. I usually prefer only seeing one or two friends at a time, but not more.

Add me to that list tho I'd prefer 1:1 tho sadly the person I knew was an extrovert so he preferred being around groups of people and often in noisy environments (bars, crowded restaurants) and would often talk with other people often when we would be having our own conversation. So among other things I've decided to cut my ties with the person I've been alone since I was 12 and at this point in my life I'm OK with being alone at least I won't have to spend money on gas for traveling or money for higher priced restaurants

At least I still have Billy Joel's music, Facebook, and wrong planet.

I'm not good at socializing, but I hate this feeling of being forever alone.

I'm different. I have people (one bloke) who have thrown themselves into being my friend. I have NO IDEA why he's chosen to be my friend but he won't go away no matter how boring I am.

I have never ever wanted the company of humans (accept in VERY RARE accessions). They weird me out. Even family.

NO! I don't want to associate with them. I don't belong! I don't fit in and I don't want to! They're cruel and I can't tolerate that!! !

I'm different and although that may be a different kind of weird, I don't care. In fact, I revel in my difference - and although that may sound harsh, I have my reasons!

I do think that I benefit from being around other people, even though I get exhausted by them. It's important because without social contact, I don't think we grow as human beings--we don't force ourselves outside of our comfort zones--we just sort of drift in the wind. I force myself to do a little bit each day, and I always congratulate myself when I've navigated a situation successfully. Every little bit helps.
