Why are people with autism treated so badly I am autistic. And my friends are autistic. And we are labeled as stupid by other people mostly my grandmother well she doesn't know she doesn't really think you're stupid but she things that I thinking of being autistic is stupid. Why are people with autism so badly I am 16 years old and autistic and why do I get treated so badly by my grandmother and others Who believe my autism is not real?my friend artistic I am autistic and we are treated badly people think we are dumb are people think we are smart but we are also smart and stupid at the same time because we are human beings why do I only teach kids up to a certain age and developmental disabilities why not teach kids the world at grade decision level I am autistic and mentally though not byIQ I learn slower then other kids but at similar level

I am currently in Home and hospital program in my school well outside of school technically and the crowds and then I've seen an autism only teach at low functioning I haven't seen the high functioning class yet but I'm sure it's Todd and even though on low functioning it's only because I can't take care of myself properly although I am handicapped in a way that is undiagnosed both mentally and physically. I ask you reading my posts do you think I am autistic? Do you want some classes wonderful for me but I need across that is taught at of my level Which I am Unsure of. If you live in New York you would know that the reasons diploma is the only way out. And currently I am not at the level of Reagan's level but if I get an IeP diploma it won't get me anywhere.

I might get sent to the day treatment program in another school or get sent to another school entirely. I really want to keep my school. I love my friends there. Getting to the classes is hard for me I can't walk as fast as the other kids and I am often Late and I can't handle the noise the regular class or right now the work

I want to be in a autism or special-needs class and still get a regions get a or local diploma if possible. I want a way that I could stay In my school.. Actually I would rather be in a regular class also but I can't do the work I would like to take RCTs what they don't offer them anymore.

Isn't there a program for kids who are physically and but not necessarily fully mentally challenged who are autistic will have a learning disability but I'm not behaviorally disabled

It might be hard to get all of what you want. And I think I understand you want to get work that challenges but that you can complete, and you want support but not to be lumped in with upsetting behaviorally disordered other children.

I think what happens will depend what's available where you live. I hope there is someone you can trust to help sort through what your district can offer you.

You sound upset---what happens next maybe could just be a step better, because high school is temporary. So maybe if it's just better it doesn't have to be really good?

Don't know what to say about your family though. It's sad when people don't appreciate those around them and and you REALLY deserve to be appreciated. I wish they could see that and hope someday, maybe they will. Or maybe you can spend more time with people who do.

I rarely have challenging behavior.

I might post more with better communication later.

People say bad things about each other all the time. They say bad things about people they don't understand. It's just the way people are. I heard someone say that "perception is everything". On my teen forums, since I write so well, they think of me as smart and I'm actually pretty popular. But in real life people think I'm intellectually disabled because of how I appear to them. It makes me sad and angry at times, but I can't really blame them too much I guess, they just don't know any better.

I go to a special needs developmentally disabled school that I was referred to. They have classes that range from high functioning to low functioning and put you into whichever ones you fit best in. I'm high functioning in things like English, reading writing, But lower functioning in things like math. So I'm in some classes with higher functioning kids and some classes with lower functioning kids. Some of the kids have behavior problems and some don't. I don't except I'm so withdrawn and have sensory meltdowns. I have no idea about what kind of diploma I might get or whatever. I probably won't be in the 12th grade until I'm 18 or 19.

Behavior disordered students are more than upsetting, they are abusive. They are the students who years ago would get their education at juvenile hall, but now because all students including pathological bullies deserve an education, they're placed in special ed with vulnerable mentally disabled students to toy with. It should be seen as child abuse to place disabled students among these soul eaters.

OP and other students with mental disabilities should be able to say "NO!" to being placed among toxic predators, instead they are told they must understand their abuser. This sets up mentally disabled students to be vulnerable to being in abusive relationships. Telling a victim of a behavior disordered bully they are bad if they don't be friends or try to understand them is abuse. Mentally disabled people should have a right to establish their own boundaries. Telling them they must tolerate that which a NT wouldn't have to is wrong.

OP shouldn't have to sacrifice their sanity to get an education. Behavior disodered children put everyone at school at risk, they are the ones who push and push until a student plans a school shooting or commits suicide. Why waste an education on future prisoners anyways?

If anyone is offended consider it took me 20 years to stop believing I was a bad person for not understanding people NTs would avoid. That something was wrong with me for not empathizing with my behavior disordered abusers. :x

Its similar to me I'm always late to class/school, people see me as stupid because I don't learn fast/can't concentrate well, but I'm starting to fix this problem by sleeping better, concentrating more, etc, etc.
my family don't even believe theres something called autism lol
I also never got that special care of being placed in a class with only autistics or something and its very hard but it has advantages; it helps you function better and be more independant and be less sensitive and see a little of whats outside adult life is like because you're in a non protective enviroment like you'd be if you got special care

I sincerely believed I was sub-normal intelligence until well into my adulthood. Most other people believed it too. Now I am frequently seen as a snooty and obtuse intellectual. :nerdy:

+1 to this. School sucked*, especially being one of the first few "officially" diagnosed with Aspergers (i.e. right after it went into the medical books as a valid diagnosis) and not having anyone have a clue about it. Then I got into college, and didn't tell a soul about my autism. No one needed to know, no one did, and life was fine and dandy. Frankly I just wish I could've been openly Autistic my whole life and not been forced to endure the bullying, depression, and all the nasty crap that comes along with being open. I remember back when being openly gay was a terrible thing (it's not as much now though, but in some places it is), but man let me tell you, I certainly feel their pain of being bullied and shunned for being who they were.

*I promise I wrote that before I saw the post in between this one and the one I'm quoting. Honest! Oh the irony...

I thought behaviorally disordered just meant not behaving as adults want for whatever reason. That's how people where I live use it, you're behaviorally disordered if you sit by yourself and spin or read or stim during recess, as well as people who bully being behaviorally disordered. Anything that disrupts the established order or upsets people no matter how harmless. Little kids getting up during circle time is behaviorally disordered around here or at least gets called that. I'm sorry if what I wrote reminded you of people who were less understanding and protective than what you needed, that wasn't my intent. I'm simply saying behavioral disorders is a term that includes many nice people who can't fit in and never intentionally act as predators. Obviously it can be dangerous to be put into a situation where you're surrounded by manipulative people when one is socially vulnerable. Hopefully that doesn't happen for the OP but the reality is that having autism makes one vulnerable. Even to otherwise nonpredatory individuals. And that feeling and being safe will take work by a lot of people to achieve.
