I have to fidget with EVERYTHING. My hands basically need to be moving or else I'll go nuts. I think this comes from being both autistic and having ADHD at the same time.
My university counselor suggested that I undergo assessment for ADHD for that reason, but I don't want to.
I think that the ADHD diagnostic procedures are horrid. All you really need to do is explain you've had problems (that most have), and mention 'to a greater degree'. I'm fairly certain that anybody could obtain a diagnosis if they were feeling the symptoms.
Not that I don't believe ADHD is serious, and that the treatment isn't important, I just think the diagnostic criteria and assessment processes suck, and that's probably a reason why it is almost certainly over-diagnosed (over 10% of the population) IMO.
Well, I actually got diagnosed in the second grade... so I didn't have to go through all that. However, I also don't remember what it was like when they had assessed me either. I'm pretty sure my parents were the ones who more concerned about my behaviors, and had been up until I was finally diagnosed with Autism.
