For exzample: If someone says "heat" I see in my mind steam coming out of a tea pot.

If someone says "hate" I see a mad face.

The list goes on.

I was wondering if anyone else was like this,as well, and if anyone knows the name of this?

when i think of hate, i don't go to visuals but words. i try to transform the word into something not so elementary sounding.

Depends what it is. I tend to get flashes of images, but a lot of my associations are spatial or kinetic, for example "left" is a tugging feeling on my left side, "up" is stretching high up to reach something etc.

"Heat" evokes the feeling of hot steam in my face when using an inhaler (for cold), "hate" I see a cartoony angry man a bit like the Monty Python guy with the hankie on his head, and he's making a "hrrrgh!" sound.

For heat, I see fire. I have not really noticed, to be honest... it is more often a sound that will do that to me.

Either it's natural; human mind making connotations to different things, or it's this:

I posted this a long time ago!

Yup!
And I have a feeling it looks quite a bit like your avatar! :D

When I think of the bus, I think of the public bus in my town that constantly breaks down, not 10 yards from the bus stop where somebody is setting up a cot... :?

When I think of the word 'heat', it reminds me of pointless celebrity gossip and people who actually read this mindless gossip. (There's a magazine over here called 'Heat').

yes i do... and i have slightly different pics for equivalent words in diff languages and they all kinda pop up together as a big collage in my mind. i think depending on how the word is presented to me (context) and in what language... the collage kinda forms in different orders and in different orientations, yet with all the same components... this kinda creates a unique emphasis for each of my pics and thus meaning.

same thing goes for random words that have some sort of sentimental meaning to me, regardless of language... the order of how my collages surface in my mind is very emotionally based and is how i often discern the differences in definitions and translations and such. not so much for english... but when i was ten, i started reading foreign dictionaries and for those words... i can remember which dictionary i learned it from and pretty much where i was when i read it. this tactic often helped me memorize factoids for school.

i also kinda talk to myself... but it's kinda hushed and babbling... like when you're "listening" to someone and can hear what they say but are more absorbed in something else. i often find that i start rambling about songs and such that contain the word(s) im thinking about... which helps me to get more contextual insight as to how the "said" word is used. i also like to create music videos for songs in my head and it helps me to form pictures to attatch to the words of the song and these are often the pics that pop up in my head... but moreso for foreign languages... the pics that pop up for me in english, i think are more ingrained in my brain and come from early memories or something... they're less elaborate at any rate.

Yes

For example, when I hear the word, "sloppy," I don't think it's necessarily a bad word myself.

I'm not usually one to think in pictures but, of course, the word "cat" will evoke images of different types of cats.

I do the same sort of thing, and I guess it is similar for a time. Eventually, the word is just remembered by a kind of feeling and is almost second nature.

I have to say that a LOT of you apparantly have me beat here. It sounds neat. I can almost watch movies by thinking about them, and a few notes from a song can remind me of the song and send a torrent of memories, but the most I get from words generally is a feeling and what they mean.

You don't ALWAYS see the pictures, etc, do you? Is it like someone is holding it in your field of vision?
