I just had a thought flash through my mind because I was thinking of how most of my obsessions have been visual ones or ones involving what I perceive to be visually stimulating...computer games, photography, cross stitch, artwork, specific movies etc....whilst others seem to have primarilly academic/scientific interests and those that involve researching and reading vast amounts of information...from this, I am guessing that AS obsessive interests can be split also, if that makes sense... has anyone else here found that they are more visual in their obsessions than academic? I have noticed many focus a lot on specific tv shows/movies or computer games, whilst others seem to focus more on academia... any insights?

Could it be connected to peoples' primary mode of intelligence? Afterall, you have different kinds of that, don't you, such as visual, verbal, spatial, mathematical etc... hmm, there is a thought.

Well, right now I'm obsessed with dancing - which is definitely physical. This happend with tennis, archery, and sword fighting, all in my past. Most of my obsessions have been mental (though not necessarily academic) pursuits. Very little 'visual' at all.

I'd describe most of most interests as academic, but I don't really have the attention span to follow through on them.

I love "practicle information" but have also been very obsessed with the feel of fur and silk, the appearance of peoples features(especially Jewish,Italian and Native American),the look of nature...moss,bark,bugs,rocks.I love words and am not sure how to classify them because they contain both ideas and are like watching a movie.

Mine are completely linked to my lust for knowledge.

That is my situation. I want to know and understand everything but I do not seem to be able to learn so well simply by reading books. It is very frustrating as there are so many things I have been wanting to study for years, but I seem to end up dipping in and dipping out again, because my more escapist interests take over, like game playing, Harry Potter, quizzes, Art, writing, philosophising... leaves me feeling most ignorant, I have to say, but forcing myself doesn't seem to work.

Most of mine have been visual 'till now. But the last year or so I've suddenly turned academic. When something's got my attention it's unbreakable and my mother hates it when she tries to talk to me.

Not that I don't still have my fair share of visual interests/obsessions.

mine is called... apathy of the mind...

There is no reason why our noggins shouldn't be able to use both sides without preference.... I beleive the only reason we brush our teeth with our preffered hand is because we are too lazy to try otherwise.... it's like addiction... being addicted to using your right hand because it's easier.

I'd say my obsessions are split 50/50 between visual stuff and academic stuff. But some stuff doesn't exactly fit into either. Like spiritual stuff.

I'm very visual, even though i'm studying literature (no need to tell it bores me to death)

I can only master topics that can be transformed from verbal to visual i'm getting better with this translation all the time, but would prefer doing something more visual.
The other classes are really some kind of nightmare, where Ihave to restructure everything myself in order to be able to remember and reproduce it. The kind of professor who make u such classes are mostly not my best friends (not to say I really have trouble with them mostly,
not that I'm unpolite with them but there is some sort of incompability)

(I really chose the wrong thing to study, although I managed to chose the subjects of all essays I have to write in subjects about visual issues)

if I could turn back the time I'd chose something more technical like sound engineer or cameraman or programmer, etc
