I finally have myself a doctor appointment tomorrow.

I was diagnosed at 20 (i am now 23) with aspergers, adhd, ocd and sad. I was explained to by the professor that I would recieve ample help an support through my doctor as it is their legal duty to provide me these services due to my disabilities/conditions.

I am going to the doctor tomorrow to ask to be reffered etc to the relavent help/support groups etc but I don't know what there is available to me? I have always felt going to the octor like this in the past I have been blindfolded so to speak, not knowing exactly what I should be getting.

The doctor always said to me before I was diagnosed "go out, get yourself a girlfriend, dont be stuck indoors". Thats great, but im 23 I work and I have a girlfriend. I had to have a lot of counselling/therapy to be able to do this and that was only gotten after I was diagnosed. I just want to know what I should be insisting he does rather then saying "what can you do for me" as the answer is usually "im not too sure"

I am from the UK if this helps at all.

I'm thinking you're doing really well now, and that the doctor wants you to rely less on him. That's the goal of therapy, really: to help you become a self-reliant person.

However, I know, in the future, that you might need your therapist's support, particularly when extra stress is placed your way within your school or work environment.

Perhaps, you could tell him that you will need him as a "safety net" for the future, and tell him why.

Update: the doctor was extremely helpful and explained they have nothing available for me because what I need is a very specialist thing. He explained that the hospital that diagnosed me should have had a plan for me, and he is going to refer me to a place which will be able to help me further.

Also, he set me up on a 2 week recurring appointment trial of Sertraline and thinks it may be all I need.

You're doing pretty well...you have your own car!

I didn't get my own car until I was 51 years old.

Good luck with the Sertraline trial.

Will you pursue further qualifications in mechanics?
