We all know that an obsession comes into our lives without warning and has the ability to drain us even though we enjoy "engaging" in it at times.

For those that want to get out of one that's causing you misery here are my tips:

- throw away or hide all things related to your obsession.

- if your obsession involves looking something up on the internet limit your internet activity. Watch TV instead, exercise or do errands.

- stay away from your "triggers". Do not go near anything or anyone that will trigger your obsession.

I have no idea if this will work for anyone else but I managed to get rid of a few of my obsessions by following these rules. It was as hard as quitting smoking and it took more than a year for me to do it but I feel as though some are very much dead and buried.

I am working on getting rid of one obsession I've had for the last 5 years that's particularly stubborn that I keep relapsing in and out of. But I am trying to get rid of it with will power. It is very much like an addiction.

I got a new kitten the last time I was hung up on an obsession that was severely negatively impacting me. Was suddenly too busy and tired to even think about it... lol

I quit having obsessions after I started taking Neurontin/Gabapentin for my OCD.

I find that I have an "obsession" or that I think about the stuff I dislike sometimes more than the stuff I actually like, which is weird.
