I ask because I first heard of aspergers tonight while surfing Wikipedia, and I think that alot of the symptoms relate to me.

One thing that's always been "quirky" about me to my friends, is my reluctance to drink. I have drank before, and the whole sensation of being drunk really bugged me and I didn't enjoy myself.

Thoughts?

I've heard some people on here saying they don't like drinking. But for me when I get the chance I like it.

I've only had one sip of alcohol in my life (it was at church for communion) and I nearly spit it out. I hate the idea of drugs and alcohol really.

The only kind of alcohol I enjoy for the sake of drinking/taste is wine...but...I do admit that driking can loosen me up, help me relax, become more outgoing...but there's something in my system that doesn't go so well with alcohols...same with smoking...

Lightning88,

I had a sip of beer around 8. I didn't like it AT ALL! I tried to taste a little vodka, FORGET IT! It touched my toungue, and that was IT!

When I got much older, I tried to drink some beer. I like it. Most people don't think I drink coffee or beer! WHY???? Because I drink about 3 beers every 3 years, and perhaps 2-3 cups of coffee every 5 years.

I like alcohol quite a bit. Lately I have been avoiding it due to the calories in alcohol, though.

It seems like people on these boards either love it or hate it. Nothing in between.

I love alcohol, but I tend to drink in moderation because of the calories, and too much red wine is a migraine trigger.

I personally enjoy the sensation, but not the taste.

I know of an aspie in NZ here that is always drunk because he loves it so much.

I have a taste aversion to alcohol, but I did drink a couple times in excess when I was in college. These day the most I drink is 2 glasses of wine on a special occasion, not often, and I really have to force it down.

I can't drink soda either, the carbonation hurts my mouth.

I think it can go both ways. Perhaps feels good to no longer feel the sensory stuff on oneself (though everybody likes that feeling of numbness). I like to drink but the older I get the less I like it. It helps socially to open up a shy person. But losing control of oneself is no fun to me.

So in response to the original question, I don't think its a trait thats AS anymore than it is NT, although someone with AS may have reasons related to AS for not liking it, an NT can just as easily not like it for reasons related to being NT, and people with AS may like it for reasons relating to having AS.

I feel exactly the way you do about alcohol. On social occasions, I used to accept a drink, and then forget to drink it. So many other more interesting things would take my attention away from it. And when I did drink, I didn't like the way it made me feel, either. I had more fun watching others get drunk.

Sort of depends how you started.... my parents always let me have a little wine at occasions, even though I didn't want it.... it tasted really off~!

but at 15 I got blatto, just like Otto, on scotch.....so today social I will drink that with ice.... what I don't like doing though is when people go out to drink, and that's it... they drink and drink and drink -usually spending in excess of $300 in one night at a nightclub.

One night I did the shouting and it set me back $800!! ! ... never again!! ! ... now I drink water..but even that is $5.00 a bottle ! -> so you knwo what I say... stay at home and just play strip poker.... it's cheaper and you'll probably end up seeing more!

at BBQ's I still force myself to drink the VB..Victoria Bitter::(best beer in the world, if there are any Yanks reading)

I very rarely have any desire to drink. Once or twice a year, maybe. I usually enjoy the feeling once I start, though.

All beer tastes extremely bitter to me. Margaritas and hard lemonade are ok.
