I am gradually learning social cues and am doing well with new people. I still have trouble with my family. They used to mistreat me. Now, they're pretty cool but still treat as different (true) or less intelligient (not true). I'm afraid after I master social skills and make friends, I'm going to be unable to change my family's opinions. I don't wanna cut off contact, but I might end up doing that. Any advice?

I know what you mean. My family's opinion of me hasn't changed at all throughout the 54 years of my existence.

I hope you don't "cut them off," though. There's still room for redemption.

I hope, one day, you could have a discussion with each family member about how you have improved already, and how you are inspired to improve in the future.

You should also make friends outside your family, so you don't have to be around your family all the time.

I am trying. I have the idea to go to them individually and tell them how they treat me differently. While some used to be, no one now is mean to me, but it might be better if they were as it would be easier to fix and define what the problem is.

My advice:

Put it more in the form of a "request" than a "demand."

Make sure you have a dialogue with them, rather than letting either you or the other person do all the talking.

It does, for those with whom you keep in contact mainly on the phone ;-) , which is a matter of living far enough away or in a different country.
