Given that you are not from planet Earth, when a questionnaire asks for your ethnic origin, should an autistic person tick the "other" box and write "Autistic" (or whatever your description of choice may be)?
I'm currently finding that the most successful explanation of my Aspergers diagnosis to someone is to say I'm from a different culture and therefore despite speaking English, the words spoken and heard may not have the same meaning for both of us. Working as I do in a multicultural office, this is readily understood by colleagues. For others, I use the analogy of asking for chips in Britain and America - what do you get in either country?
