I hate new shoes!

I hate new shoes (or couldn't you tell from the subject line?)! The first day I wear them, all I can do is think about how uncomfortable my feet are. Driving is the worst, its like I can't even feel the pedals. I tried several times because the tip/toes are different. I worry constantly that they aren't a good fit and that I just wasted $50 on shoes that are too big or too small, or somehow both! They feel too tight in the middle, too loose in the back, my ankles kind of hurt.... but they are white and shiny..... which means I am afraid I am going to ruin them in 5 seconds!

Do NTs get this crazy about simple changes like this too? Anyone else hate getting new shoes?

I actually like getting new shoes. For some time, one of my obsessions was basketball sneakers. I know what you mean about them being squeaky clean and afraid of ruining them. I would put them on at the court, take them off before leaving, and place them back inside the original box everytime I was finished with them.

Collecting basketball sneakers is way too expensive though. I watched my friend start blowing thousands on old pairs of Jordans he would never wear and I saw how insane it was. They're just shoes!

I think getting the right shoes is more of a problem for me. New shoes generally don't mean a problem for me. (Although I am more comfortable with worn ones) What causes prolems for me are shoes that for reason or other don't sit well on my feet. (Too small, too big, wrong material, undefined feeling of not liking them)

Yes!! I HATE buying new shoes - I spend ages trying on shoes, finding out they are uncomfortable in one or more of the so many ways that shoes can be uncomfortable, getting increasingly stressed and finally settling on shoes that I don't really like (that don't look like my old ones) and don't really feel right (they don't feel like my old ones). I can never bring myself to throw my old ones away, just in case I can't bear to wear my new ones (and of course I only ever own one pair at once, buying just one pair is enough trouble). And when I am finally accustomed to them, they have worn out and I need to get a new pair.

*shudder* the only thing worse than shopping for shoes is shopping for clothes.

Clothes shopping I am usually OK with, as long as the shirt is big enough and has no funny seams. Pants are not fun though. And as for my shoes, they have looked the same (white with blue sections) for about 10 years now, every time a different pair though.

I hate new shoes with a passion. Every time I try them on in a store, they feel horribly uncomfortable. Eventually, I settle on a pair, and end up buying it. But even then, it takes forever to break them in. I have those wooden things that break in the shoes for you. It's basically a wooden mold of a human foot; it has a built in clamp that expands the mold, slighting stretching the shoe as a result. Ever since I bought those things, buying new shoes became a far more tolerable ordeal. Notice I said "tolerable", not "comfortable".

I hate shopping for new shoes. I hate the salespeople when you are buying them. I hate having to wear them for the first few days because I always wonder if I 'did the right thing' spending money on a new pair of shoes and they inevitably feel uncomfortable.

I've now taken into throwing out my old shoes before I've gotten replacements just so that I'll be forced to buy a new pair when I need them. Otherwise, I'd still be in the same pair of boots that were damaged in 2001. I actually liked that pair.

i love new shoes. they need to come back with those reebok pumps hightopps. those were some pretty sweet shoes

I don't mind getting new flats. Actually I really want new ones. But I hate getting new tennis shoes.

I get worried about ruining my new shoes, but then again... I have terrible motor-skills.

Funny, the only new article of clothing I tolerated as a kid were new shoes. I would have preferred a new toy or something but new shoes were OK. But I hated other articles of clothing with a passion. I especially hated it if I got a shirt of a sweater as a present. Then going through the ritually of trying them on to see if they fit and people pulling and tugging at you, staightening up your collar etc which really only made me appear grumpy and ungreatful. I resented being poked and prodded at. New shoes only became an issue when people pressed down on my toes to feel if I have enough toe room. I know if they were uncomfortable or not; I would have taken them off straight away with the need for people pressing down on my toes.

I had not thought of it as such until reading this thread. I suspect that I must hate buying new shoes, and that I must be terribly sensitive. I buy them only when the last ones are approximating rags. When I do buy, I wander store to store for hours. comfort, do they make my feet (I am 5' 11" size 11) look like gunboats? How much traction will they have? Not too flashy? Color, color?
