Where do Special Interests come from?
Since special interests seem to be so varied I was wondering what the impetus was for everyone's special interest. Is there an impetus per say? I am not sure what drives my interests. I've always wondered why some people are attracted to certain things and not others. What do you guys think?
I've had lifelong interests and then more recent interests, and other interests that seem to tapper off and then come back to life as soon as they seem to be dying off. Anyone else?
This explains special interests pretty well:
I have no idea what triggers something to become a BIG interest for me, it just happens. I don't, and indeed I can't, choose these fixations, they just occur out of the blue.

For me it starts off with "that sounds interesting but I don't know much about it" and then you scour the web for every last piece of information on this one topic without even being aware that's what you're doing. I don't even know what's going on in my mind. It's not even the internet doing that either. Before we had it I'd go to the library and read every book, listen to every audio book, and watch every video tape on it. I just become fixated and obsessed without even being aware I am. I'm probably fixated on something at the moment but I have no idea until after when it occurs to me I've looked up everything there is publicly available. I'd like to know why this even happens.
