ABA Coverage and Insurance - Texas
Hello All-
First time poster but long time lurker
My youngest has been diagnosed with autism, intellectual impairment and sensory processing disorder. He was diagnosed rather young around 2 years (he's almost 3 now). Once he turns 3 we were advised to have him retested which we will do.
We suspected early on based on development milestones, his fascination with only toy cars and other mannerisms - he love love loves toy cars. He has been attending ABA therapy for almost a year and although he is still non verbal he has made good progress. Unfortunately, our insurance coverage does not cover ABA as it's considered educational/experimental which means we've been paying the full price for therapy. We would like him to get more hours but that isn't financially possible due to the very high cost of 1x1 therapy.
I am curious if anyone else has been informed that ABA is not a covered benefit under their insurance and how they worked through it or any alternative options.
I've appealed the outcome of it not being covered but was informed that the way the health insurance is funded ABA does not have to be covered. I keep hearing about child individual coverage but no idea of pricing on that and if it also covers health issues along with ABA or not.
Hopefully not rambling but appreciate any and all info.
