Prez Bush.....declares combat on Autism (still looking for those weapons of mass destruction)

I don't think it means anything really. It is just one of those feel-good press releases to appease parents, who convinced their representatives to fund some new research.

Personally I think its bs. Especially when one considers that the madness of King George is behind it. Maybe theyd do better combating egomaniacs instead. Starting with themselves.

And it appears that most of the groups supporting it are NT run research groups that will benefit from grants.

You know, professionals. Like the highly regarded Dr. Ayres. Someone who for 40 years was considered an expert in the field of child psychiatry. Someone other professionals would sit up and take notice of whenever they spoke cause, well, he's a well respected fellow professional. And when allegations first surfaced in the 80's, it was fellow professionals that came to bat for him.

But what the hey, lets let them throw away millions looking for a chemical cure to a genetic disorder, since Im going to assume that since George is pushing it, its intended eventually to help his good friends in the pharma profession.

but if we can get to a good standpoint... gene therapy can be used to help form the developing brain before the full phenotype is set in the "mental stone"... ideally, anyway.

I don't think we have anything to worry about. Remember what happened the last time Bush declared war? He declared war on terror and war on whoever commited 9/11. 5 years later they still haven't caught Osama Bin Laden and America declared war on Iraq out of the blue.

He's probably going to wind up attacking schizophrenia or Down syndrome if he is saying that he has declared war on Autism. His track record leads me to this conclusion.

I find it terribly ironic that this is coming from a man who has poorer communication skills than every one of us except for the most LFA of us all.

Yes, this War on Autism business really gets under my skin.

Where therapy for autism is directed towards helping people cope with life in NT society, it can be good. The research directed towards understanding what autism is can be good too.

But the idea of eradicating it is based on total misunderstanding & there is real danger in it.

As for Bush's involvement, he just doesn't learn does he?

I SWEAR! We should start a combat puppies campaign! Or how about combat kitty cats? I mean they ARE dangerous! Some dogs and cats spread disease, cause damage, destroy the environment, and YES, EVEN kill people! In short, puppies and kitties are JUST as bad as autism!

HEY, can anyone come up with a nice campaign? I mean it is TRUE! Some autism is HORRIBLE, just like some puppies and kitties! But some autistics can be even better campanions than some of the puppies and kitties! And some autistics can be VERY smart and helpful! Also, some people would HAPPILY want to kill a puppy, but others would risk life and limb to save them!

Except that its Combatting Autism, so it would be CA, and if you say it twice fast its CACA.

Time to start Combatting Neurotypicalism....because a sane planet depends on it.

And because Im f*****g tired of trying to explain simple stuff about how we experience life to people who think theres something wrong with experiencing life like that.

The more I understand what this is, AS, the more I think that it may be a part of the evolutionary progression, and NT life is still in the dark ages and its f*****g hard to deal with cause like, hello, we're advancing now. Moving forward. Getting sensitive. Hello. f**k they're still in the dark ages.

Maybe we're supposed to be like we are. Good thinking yeah.
