So i came down with a ear infection recently, it hurts but i can no longer hear very well and its pretty nice.

when i make popcorn, the sound of the pot scrapping against my stove hurt my ears but now everything's so quiet and its awesome.

I know i have to go to see a doctor and get some anti-biotics but for now i think ill enjoy not having sounds be so loud and painful

anyone else relate?

My response to noises and music changes. Sometime even the sound of a friend is too much.
My reaction to an ear infection was Stop this feeling like someone poked an ice pick into my inner ear.

Ive gotten quite use to earaches, all of my childhood was dominated by ear infections and the pain just gets worse the most i thnk about it but as long as im disctracted or take some advil the pain goes away.

I agree though, the pain can get pretty bad, right now its starting to feel like its about to bleed.

:o

My doctor surprised me.

I was told the ear with pain was not as infected as the other one.

That kind of thing generally is quite nice until someone tries to talk to me and it's hard to figure out what they are saying.

I would be absolutely miserable with the discomfort and pain from an ear infection.

But I am instantly so much calmer when I have headphones/earphones/earplugs on. It allows me to feel very disconnected from things and not so threatened by what's going on around me. I do have sensitivities to sound so that is probably part of the reason it works. I had to use earphones the other day when I was in a noisy public place and it really helped me to tolerate it until I could leave.

I know what you mean about the ridiculously sensitive hearing. I found a solution to my overly sensitive hearing about 5 years ago, or rather I thought so at the time (it wasn't worth it)... My friend had a Ruger mini 14 rifle (small and VERY loud rifle) so I took out my ear plugs and fired 20 rounds as fast as I could, at the time it seemed a good logical idea.. I was happy at first cause the noises were all gone, literally, I was deaf after that. I started to get scared though because after 2 days I still couldn't hear. Luckily after around a week I regained about 70% of my hearing, however I wish I hadn't done it because my ears now ring 24/7/365. Someday's it nearly drives me mad, personal worst case of self harm, can not recommend. I like your option better minus the loss of balance, I already run into enough doors with my normal balance.
