A strategy game is any game in which your individual playing decisions have long-term consequences that strongly influence the outcome of the whole game. They require you to think ahead a lot. Little or none of what happens in the game is pure chance.

They can be board games, role-playing games, video games, anything. Some examples are chess, Monopoly, Civilization, and war games.

I'm not into conflict. I'd probably do better at a strategy game based on co-operation. My working memory took a bad hit when I got PTSD from dealing with unreasonable people.

Interestingly enough, strategy based simulation games really helped me with PTSD and even in such games which were not particularly goal oriented [unless you choose to set your own goals!] playing them helps me to apply workable goals to my day to day life, as well as gives me a creative outlet when I'm stuck with down-time, whether from pain, depression, stress, or just lack of motivation.

I'm alright at chess. But I preferred playing command and conquer particularly the red alert and Tiberian sun titles. The newer version titled generals was ok except it was a bit too much of a change from the original I think. Red alert wouldn't be the same without mammoth tanks and the like. Plus way back I don't think I could run the newer on my PC so fair to say my opinion may be slightly biased. :(
