Feel not the same as low functioning autistics
Since my Asperger's diagnosis about all the advice I've been given is to look online and watch videos by idiots on youtube, who I don't feel anything in common with.
I'm told I have the same condition as people who have a low IQ, don't talk to anybody, smear faeces on walls and go into rages where they're dangerous, when I don't feel anything like that and telling me I'm like that doesn't help me at all.
They tell me it's all one condition where some people have a low IQ and can never function normally in society, and others are a genius or Bill Gates, so that's confusing.
I would find it more helpful if I could have information suited to me.
Although I know people will try to force me to think I'm the same because they have been told by the 'experts' but if I know I'm not it doesn't help me.
Though I don't like the way OP is lumping all severely autistic people in one oversimplified category, I get that it may be difficult to find resources on managing mild autism or Aspergers. Try searching those terms instead of"autism." Maybe that can narrow down your results. Also some may think people on the high end of the spectrum don't need much help like the people on the lowest end, so they only post vids or blogs or whatever on that.

I agree with you on this one. My son has Aspergers and is very high functioning. He's very talkative, looks others in the eyes, attend regular school, etc. My good friend has a son who has classic Autism and they are nothing alike, at all. That is one of the reasons I wish they kept Aspergers as one diagnosis. He is non-verbal, runs away alot, cannot attend regular school, will not look at anyone in the eye, etc. It's such a broad range that Autism spreads across, it can be confusing.

Curious, is he also social? I assume so since you say he is talkative but does he play with other kids?

Autistic obsession.
OP - are you aware of the theory of confirmation bias?
Here's an article. Its a wee bit snarky, but you're clearly verbally intelligent enough to appreciate a little sarcasm.
https://youarenotsosmart.com/2010/06/23 ... tion-bias/
You're displaying the classic signs of confirmation bias. But instead of looking for things about The Golden Child (from that link) you are looking for signs that you can't be autistic.
Case in point. I'm autistic, have a graduate degree, and have never once smeared my feases. Sometimes I rock... and I damn well stop it when I realized people are staring at me, because yes, I do notice, and yes, I do care. I've got a home and a business which I own and which keeps me full time employed. I'd gamble and say that I am at least as high functioning as you, if not more. (accounting for the fact that I think I'm probably way older than you and have had more time to get "functional.")
Are you willing to see that I've said this? Or will you forget it and go on looking for someone clearly less "functioning" than you?

Contrary to popular believe it is a SPECTRUM meaning that There is "low functioning" Autistics with low IQs, Low Functioning Autistics with high IQs, High functioning with Low IQs, High functioning with High IQs, and Everywhere in between. -.- It's a Spectrum it isn't 2d it's 3d It isn't Low functioning/low IQ - High IQ it's more 3d
(Ignore this stuff)High IQ
(Ignore this stuff....)|
Low Functioning --- --- High Functioning
(Ignore this stuff....)|
(Ignore this stuff)Low IQ
ASCII Art if you need it.
You functioning level Has NOTHING TO DO WITH your IQ.. How many times do I need to say that.
Sorry, I hate topics like this and their negative nature.
It's not a onesided spectrum. Many Low functioning People have High IQs. The opposite is true for High Functioning
You can empathize with them because you know what it is like to want to communicate something but not know how to say it, right. If you need me to further explain, Just Ask me any time.
Slightly Modified to make ASCII ART work

Agreed. Except that when people are newly diagnosed, they have to confront these ideas in their heads. And usually, the only way they can do that is to talk about it. We've all be exposed to these harmful ideas because thanks to our friends at Autism Speaks and such, we been exposed to these ideas over and over. When you're newly diagnosed, you face a whole new world of recognizing how unjust that is.
I've worked with poop smearers. It is an intense job. They do have a lot of needs. But they are also very rare, and very impacted by a variety of factors. I've never heard of or been with a poop smearer over the age of 4 that didn't have multiple diagnosis on top of autism.
It's not just autistic kids that smear feces on walls, some "normal" toddlers do it too. My son sure did. I tried everything I could think of to get him to stop and then I started to make him clean it up himself and he finally stopped. I don't know if he grew out of it or if my natural consequence for him worked.

Oh, no! Its a good thing babies are cute and we're programed to love them. Because if that weren't so, I think most toddlers would be on the street.
I think there's a natural, instinctive, revulsion to poop. But if you are too young, or your brain never developed to recognize that revulsion, its just a warm goopy substance that's perfect for painting. The women I used to care for who did that seemed to have no memory of causing such a fuss when she did it. It was just a tactile thing for her.
*BTW - true to what I was saying, she had a severe seizure disorder that wiped out her short term memory every time. Its never just autism that causes this long term.

It was very difficult dealing with it and I often felt like beating his ass for it lol but I held back on that impulse. I am sure lot of parents feel that way about their kids when they do something that makes them angry or frustrated.
Now my NT daughter will play with her poop and dig in her diaper and she has also smeared it on walls and doors and her toy piano one time and another time she got it all over the rug.
I used to think this was something that only autistic kids did until I had my own. I never did this either.

Oh, Gawd. Two smearers in a row! I am so sorry. As I said. Good thing they are cute. (I'm assuming they are cute. Most babies are... unless they are smearing. In which case, good thing you have self-control.
They are cute and they both look alike. When I had my girl, it felt like I had my son all over again because she looked a lot like him like she was a clone of him. Pretty soon they will both start looking different from each other when puberty hits.

Seeing children playing with pooh was probably the inspiration behind (pardon the pun) the invention of Plasticine and Play Doh.
Personally I feel a far greeater affinity with the so-called low functioning autistics than I do with those at the so-called higher end of the spectrum who feel they're the next evolutionary step and superior to other mere mortals.
As for finding more specific resources and material, there is probably more stuff available online about Asperger Syndrome than there is about common or garden autism.
