They may have more Autistic traits then most but whether they are autistic is questionable.
Is Silicon Valley a Breeding Ground for Asperger’s Syndrome? by Dr. Kenneth Roberson is an Asperger’s psychologist in San Francisco with over 30 years of experience
Quote:
Numerous studies have shown the parents who have children later in life are at a higher risk of having children with developmental delays. There is also a strong correlation between higher levels of education and age of child rearing. Suggestions have been made that people who have advanced degrees tend to have children later in life, perhaps the reason for the most significant indicators of risk for having autistic children – education and age.
Furthermore, parents who are more educated are also more likely to be aware of the symptoms of autism and to seek a diagnosis, and consequent services, for their children.
I see no reason why the above theory would not apply to adults and to other scientific proffessions. These fields are very competive, it would seem to me that networking and social game playing skills would be needed. I think that the idea that scientific fields had a lot of autistics was probably more true 20 or 30 years ago then it would be today where employers are worried a "different" employee might shoot up the office, or leak company secrets online.
