How do I get more regular exposure to social things?

^Like the title here says.

The only time I ever "go out" is with community integration assistants and I don't go anywhere alone with actual friends my age. Yes, I have friends, but they are just people I usually only talk with. I really want to actually do stuff with friends, but it's hard because of public transportation services and the cost of Uber in town. It's like I'm stuck in my house and can't usually go out unless it's really necessary.

Just throwing this out there as it might not be desirable or possible, but, do you have access to a dog? I've noticed that people who own a dog and walk it, or even walk other people's dogs, have crazy mad social contact, daily!

It seems to be an intensely social thing just to take a dog for a walk in a place where other people also walk their dogs -- the dogs usually want to check each other out, and it brings the owners into a conversation usually, too. In my local park I don't know how a person with a dog makes any actual progress around the park -- I see them stop and talk with every other dog walker/owner.

If you want to get exposed to being social and encountering lots of people, dogs seem like a golden key to all that. It's one reason why I don't want one even though I like them, lol.
