I know a draft is unlikely. It's extra unlikely for me since I'm a girl. But I still find it very fun to think of ways to dodge the draft. Maybe I can just say I'm gay. Maybe I can exaggerate my eye problems and fail all the depth perception tests on purpose. Maybe I can make a bunch of BS psychic predictions or act paranoid about UFOs to make them think I'm crazy.

Gay wouldve worked in the Vietnam era. I dont know if it matters now, or not. In the Clinton era we had "dont ask, dont tell", and now its some other policy.

But you could do one simple obvious thing. That being just point to your autism diagnosis. I would think that being dxd low functioning autistic would easily get you out of military service.

I don't actually have an autism diagnosis. It was just made up. My parents kept trying, but since I'm not a true aspie I couldn't actually get diagnosed.

I'm kinda thinking that if Canadian Armed Forces have to start conscripting women we're probably a week in to the apocalypse and you'll have much bigger worries than getting drafted, worries such as surviving the next 15 minutes!

Richard Feynman tried to enlist in the U.S. army when they were inflating for WW II. The psychologist asked him if he thought people were watching him. Given that his back was to a waiting room with about 30 men lined up like a theatre, and that there wasn't much else to look at, he said yes. During a few more questions, the psych didn't look up as Richard turned around to verify his guesses, attracting more attention. Just for telling the plain truth, he was rejected. He tells it better, though.

Lol!

Youve made thousands of posts on WP complaining about how everyone who meets you is instantly convinced that you're "autistic"! Not even "aspie", but that you remind folks of folks they know who are hard core autistic. So if you did go for a real diagnosis it sounds like there is a good chance that a doctor would make it official that you really are autistic. And viola'! Draft deferment!

Alternatively...if that didnt work you could do what some guys in the Vietnam war era supposedly did:chop off one of your big toes. When I was a kid in the Sixties I heard that simply chopping off a big toe on one foot was enough for them to reject you because they wouldnt be able to fit you into army boots. Well...thats what I heard anyway.

Big Wednesday (one of my favourites), a coming-of-age film, focuses on the lives of some young people during the Vietnam war. Several of the young men get their draft papers and use various methods to get out of it: pretending to be gay, pretending to have mental issues, having a friend beat your leg with a stick and then wearing a leg brace. The best has to be Gary Busey's mad act:

EDIT: Damn, why can't I see youtube vids on WP! Here's the link in case others are having the same problem.

Just enlist - then you would not need to be concerned with the draft.

So, you cant get a diagnosis because you're not diagnosed. Makes sense.

Richard couldn't be drafted. He was essential to the war effort exactly where he was, contributing to the team that designed the atomic bomb.

Some Aspies could also do that. If you are designing highly important stuff for our military industrial complex, they won't draft you. The military may be stupid, but they aren't that stupid.

Ironically, if your moral compass prevents you from doing stuff like that, then they want to draft you. 8O

That is what I did back in the Viet Nam era, then discovered my lottery number was a high one and I never would have been drafted.

I had previously sought status as a conscientious objector, but then I had not followed through with that because I could not find any clergy near me to write the required letter. Later on, however, I announced to the military that I had just quit...and I ultimately ended up with an honorable administrative discharge at the convenience of the government and as a conscientious objector.

Easy... VERY easy... just insist that The Messiah is here on Earth right now. Yes, THE Messiah, the one who many praise and worship as Christ and Saviour, even though his only authority is to be here in this universe as a MESSENGER. The ironic thing is that it's actually TRUE, The Messiah, and I really do mean THE Messiah, happens to BE ON EARTH RIGHT NOW! The man has even written thousands of pages on-line at this site...

I didn't know Canada had a draft. Or that anybody even has to register for a draft in Canada.

The last time Canada had a draft was during WW 2. And they only drafted about 12,000 men. Only about 2,500 actually saw service in the front lines of Europe.

Not even the US has a draft, and hasn't had one since 1975. Even today, women don't have to register for the US draft.

What are you worried about?

Like you said, it's extremely unlikely that Canada will ever have a draft. It was difficult to implement a draft even during WW 2.

Richard was Trying to enlist, before he'd been told about The Bomb. The Army might have just expected him to be a troublemaker, though. I hear that they ask questions about Shakespeare, and if you get them right, you are rejected as an obvious misfit.

Hans Asperger was trying to save Aspies from being killed as defective people and instead used for the war effort according to their unique abilities.

Military policy may be fairly wise within it's province, but military people can be infinitely stupid when it comes to distinguishing between talent and boasting, thus treating both the same. It is much safer to depend upon the kindness of strangers than their intellectual abilities, which are even less predictable.

Military service, ugh... : :|

Only serving on an island inhabited by nice and friendly Negritos can be some consolation:
