Does anyone have (or ever had) trouble telling if someone else is smiling at you?

And if so, how did you find out?

Yessss. Although I'm not sure if this is your scenario, but I can never acknowledge if someone is looking beyond me, or at me as I never make eye contact.

I see people smiling in my general direction.
Maybe they're smiling at me, maybe they're not.
And I don't know whether they're smiling at me or because of me.

How you find out?
Smile back and see what happens.

yeah, i have serious trouble dealing with smile at public especially with women. I never approached a woman emotionally, because of the social protocol of having to meet the girl, meeting her friends, making jokes, laughing. I just can not do these things. Its so frustating that things are that way.

Same. Also the whole meeting their family thing. It's all too much for me, I'm unfit for the dating scene. I'll be attracted to someone but usually avoid them just because I can't deal with the social protocol that follows if anything were to happen. It's more embarrassing when they find out, or at least piece together, the fact that you're an absolute loner.

I have a problem with recognising people who are smiling. Even people I know well. I can tell that they are smiling, but the smile distorts their face beyond recognition. :?

I think im 50/50, i can read a really big smile, or a animated smile very easily. My issue is micro expression, i actually doubt micro expressions exsistance. I feel lucky that my ability to read basic facial expressions has never been a big problem.
