Anyone get a sudden flash of light or dimming. That you can separate from your surroundings. I've even had flashes when my eyes are closed.

It is just an instant not super bright but a noticeable change.

What is this?

I think I know what you're talking about...at least the flash of light part. I figure it's either a temporary malfunction of something in my eye or brain (well, technically the eye is part of the brain...)

or else it could even be a..what's the word I'm looking for...like a charged particle, radiation from space, that kind of thing. I think I've read they can cause a brief flash in your vision.

The theory about charged particles creating a "spike in the signal", would fit nicely into an electronic system, but the signals that our brains receive, and the processing thereof, is a chemical rather than a purely electrical phenomenon...

I get that dimming thing every once in a while. It kinda freaks me out, especially since I have never been able to figure out why the world seems to get darker.

What's the dimming thing? Just everything gets darker for a while? I've never had that.

I do occasionally get a loud ringing in one of my ears, that goes away within a minute or so. I figure that must be the auditory equivalent.

I don't know what this is, but I get it too - although more the brightness than the dimming.

I also can get the bright flashes with my eyes closed - and even in my sleep - the extreme brightness wakes me up.

Though it is not super dark and it is literally an instant. If you think of light sunglasses.

I get these electric shocks that wake me up and bold upwards. I was told it was some sort of hallucination. Something to do with your brain doing things in the wrong order during sleep.

I get flashes of bright lights and jolts, but had thought this was because of my epilepsy.

This may be caused by erratic blood flow to the optic nerves. Sometimes things go dim
and I get dizzy at the same time, or everything gets super bright and clear just before a
migraine "aura".
