But that has something to do with culture and financial gap or luck, and it has nothing to do with any form of dependence or incompetence.
People say that, but it seems like a judgement is still put on adults who live with, or have moved back in with, parents or relatives. People still insinuate that you can't look after yourself and are immature, you're a failure, it's humiliating, etc. I don't like even mentioning that I live with relations.
I've moved around a bunch, but at the moment am staying with relatives, and I cannot stand it. They treat me like a ret*d infant even though I'm an adult, just because I'm staying in their place. Like it automatically reverts me back to childhood and they are entitled to treat me like a child. It's just really inappropriate, and I cannot WAIT to move back out. Hopefully very, very soon.
Then good luck figuring out how to move on...

And soon too.
Sorry if it's sounds dismissive or insensitive, but it's probably because irrelevant from where I'm. Nor knew what it was like to be treated that way.
... Nor knew anyone treated that way.
In
this culture's case, the children takes care of the parent. And usually inherits the house in the end. If the property IS actually owned by family.
As for the financial part, you probably had no idea

about several factors why people
from my place usually cannot move out whether they want to or not, let alone own a place before their 50s even with combined effort. (Seen and knew such families.) It could be worse than that as to why individuals cannot or do not move out of the house. And people here usually do not beat up or berate others for it.

So I'm not sure if that counts, because I don't live in a Western or European setting where individuals moves out around 16-18 years of age.
NOT being able to move out even after adulthood here IS a NORM.

But then again, vent all you like, but it's not what "People say" **here**.
Your situation is different from mine, in more ways than one. This is why, I usually say
"From where I live". I guess, I
have to
always write that part from now on to avoid assumption and confusion.
