I tend to do this a lot, with EVERYTHING. How can one NOT overthink things? I am like this periodically when I randomly enter a state of mania or just pure contentment, where every joke is funny and nobody's attitude bothers me. It was surprising how few craps I gave last night when I was in a mood like that. I want that again...

Yes, it's like the car that is my racing mind gets stuck in a pothole.

Chronic overthinker here.

I'm constantly being told not to think so much.

Which would be great advice, if I didn't then get caught up in thinking about it...

What's so wrong about thinking too much? If only everyone thought about everything, the world would be a better place.

I over think things a lot. The things that I over think the most are the mistakes that I make.

I do such things quite often; I caught myself doing that so many times yesterday, actually.
When I overthink social situations, it makes me rather anxious and I pick out details that don't even matter.

I do this all the time. As to how to stop it, I wish I knew the answer. I guess with some things it helps to set goals and then you can be a bit more focused. But if it's you setting them yourself then you have to be disciplined enough to keep to them so I find this tricky. of couse it's then easy to overthink what the goals are.

I live in this described agony. NT therapists do not get it. They try to label it with DSM crap, but it's a pure aspie trait. Joy, can I steal your line; I love it! "Racing thoughts feel like a car that flipped upside down in a pothole, yet the wheels keep spinning. "

If anyone has a remedy for this sickening problem, which consumes my sanity, I would love to learn. Yoga, piano playing... these all help while I'm at it. But when I step away, the brain starts up again. Help!

Was talking with a therapist once about a really big issue that I had previously said I was going to take action about, then was giving him all these reasons why I decided not to, and he said "are you playing head games with yourself?", so yeah, many don't get it.

I am an over thinker for sure. I think things through and then I think them through again. But what I don't get is what are you supposed to do besides think? I'm always thinking, the thought of not thinking is just kind of foreign to me... is it even possible to not think? If you aren't thinking then what exactly is it you are doing?

I prefer overthinking things to the alternative. There are some times when I can let it go and just be "fun" and "social" but it almost inevitably leads to some big mishap that I could have avoided had I been paying attention.

I had a reply in mind, but then I thought "No, that's not quite right." so I erased it. Now I'm thinking it would have been good with some tweaks.

*wanders off to think this over*

I tend to overthink, now that I think about it.
