Does anyone else have atypical reactions to medications or are overly sensitive to dosage changes or sensitivity varying levels of the drug in your blood?

I read somewhere that aspies tend to have these reactions to meds.

I tried several anti-depressants for ~1.5 years but none of them did anything at all. They were all completely useless. Even when I suddenly stopped taking anti-depressant meds against the quack's advice, absolutely nothing happened. I seem to be immune to medication.

Very much so. The doctor I get my medication from has tried many meds on me. When I'd tell her that a new med I was taking had certain side effects she'd tell me that it wasn't suppose to do that to me. Try to up the dosage of a med and I'd have problems with the side effects at the higher dosage so we'd drop it back down to the lower dosage.

I haven't had experiences with many medications beyond painkillers, herbal remedies, and antibiotics, but I do find that "normal adult dosages" in standard pharmaceuticals seem to be slightly too much for me and I have mild effects of someone taking too high a dose.

But I've always attributed that to being short, as I'm 5' 0, which is not really the average adult but more like the 12 year old child borderline dosage candidate.

I once took some chamomile tea as a sleep aid, but used two tea bags instead of one, and it knocked me out so badly I was too groggy the next morning to make it into work. It's only a herbal tea, so that seemed like an excessive reaction.

Same with valerian for calming -- I was almost non-functioning physically. So even herbal remedy things seem to have to strong an effect on me at normal dosage. Again I just think it's size related though.

Valerian is damn strong lol. Yes but it seems I've gotten more sensitive to medicines and drugs recently

Hah yeah, valerian is scary!

I kinda thought, "Ah, nice gentle herbal remedies, probably real subtle, gentle effects, right?"

That bottle is now just sitting there and I eye it like it's the devil now!

Yes.
For one thing, I'm allergic to Alleve.
And I can't even take a child's dose of Robitussin cough medicine ... one night I had side effects that were like an overdose.

So I prefer natural remedies, things like:

Aspirin
Organic apple cider vinegar
Echinacea
Epsom salts
Tea
Chocolate :)

Yeah, my mom and I are both sensitive to medications, and I think my brother is too (he hallucinates and has panic attacks if he takes benadryl). I've been on a variety of different things and very rarely do they work like they should, it seems. Once in the ER, they gave me morphine and it made me feel ten times worse.

Not too much but there are some exceptions like Benadryl makes me hyper & some medications that are supposed to be taken at night cuz they cause tiredness don't make me tired after being on em abit & I can take em in the mornings & be fine.

I am highly sensitive to (chemical/synthetic) medications, as they have either, the opposite affect on me, than what they are intended for, or I am affected by them, to a much higher degree than what they are intended to do. I utilize Chinese herbs and Ayurvedic medicinals, as well as other plant based sources. I acquire the best results from tinctures and teas. Ayurvedic remedies are extremely affective for PTSD related symptoms, GAD and adrenal fatigue and other hormone related issues that resulted from PTSD/GAD... in case it is of benefit to you (and/or others), to research.

Yes, I suffer from depression. I've tried 10 different anti- depressants and none of them worked. I either had to stop talking them because of side effects or they just did not work. I have also had ECT treatments and they were not effective. I think I'm just going to suffer from depression for the rest of my life. Currently I have modified my eating habits in hope that it may help.

Yes I am extremely sensitive to most medication. However I do respond very well to natural remedies, such as Turmeric as an anti-inflammatory.

I'm allergic to Morphine, after I found that out the hard way I've been pretty skeptical about putting any pills in my body.

I am also sensitive to medications or have reverse reactions, like Benadryl making me feel more awake or agitated than putting me to sleep. I am also extremely sensitive to hormone changes.
