Aspies in the UK...
Has anyone of my fellow Aspies in the UK ever considered how it could be possible to change the fundemental values of society and bring an end to this NT anarchic way of so called civilisation? Then consider Republic.....I have and it can work. Republic is NOT a political party but a pressure group that calls for the removal of the monarchy so we can have a democraticly elected head of state. "Thats all very well but....." I hear you say but supposing that elected head of state had been either choice of or influenced by the Republic/`Aspergers movement`. It would take an Aspergers mind to implement all the radical changes to society to make it a strong, confident and industrialist one where the individual is emphasised, with it made clear that if society is to work as a "team" the individual should be given everything it can to develop its own mind and body. Every person is a cog in a machine yet every cog still needs to be oiled.......
Yet surely an aspergers mind can mend all the political headaches like law/order, transport, education etc etc as the values of security to the individual AS person is so great that it would get the side of the older type electorate. An AS mind could cure all the transport problems by making a "clockwork" system funded directly from VAT thus every man, women and child and therefore getting the vote from the worker who has to commute. An AS controled school can see great improvments in disciplin and the handing back of schools to thier teachers so that THEY run the school not councils.
All this is possible yet it isnt happening.......
Thats what i love about aspergers not only is there an aspergers answar to every question but you can see something that normal people cant.

ill check it out later, but im not exactly a democrat. Also i notice you equate NT 'civilization' with anarchy, thats exactly what it isnt! Monarchy is close to being the exact opposite of social-libertarianism (anarchism).
The cognitive advantages offered by autism are a great resource and could be harnessed to the greater good, im with you there. As long as they're carefully offset against the NT mindset. Nts have their uses too - they understand each other and (sometimes) posess a greater level of empathy.
My problem with democracy is to some extent its a sham - people vote depending on how they are manipulated by the press. The agenda of the press is set by the real rulers of the world, those running the major corporations, who meet up behind closed doors. And i do mean ALL the press - why is there a total media-blackout on the bilderburg group? When a 'genuine' politician slips through their net and causes problems for their agenda, something happens; a mysterious cancer ,a scandal... obvious examples include JFK & more recently Ken Livingston (possibly) expect to see more racist slurs at some point if he doesnt behave himself.
There are two major political parties in the UK - the freemason party & the freemason party. Played against each other depending on the social & economic wants of the populace in different eras, so that in the long term, nothing really changes so fast that our corporate masters interests might suffer. Sure, in the short term they do offer different benefits to different people, but the illusion of real, absolute choice is main barrier to true freedom (whether that be democratic or otherwise)
Have you seen the series 'yes, minister?'. often you see a civil servant asking whether someone is 'sound' or 'one of us', substitute the word 'mason(or related group)' and you can see how things really work.
btw welcome to WP. theres quite a few of us from the UK.
Ive given a little thought as to how abolition of the monarchy might be achieved.
If you wanted to do it right now, youd need something pretty drastic to alter public perceptions & reduce the resistance. You have to contend with;
a)blue-rinsers/the 'grey' vote
b)omg! we cant do THAT!
c)apathy
You need some sort of scandal or event that would damn the monarchy in the eyes of all but their most ardent followers, that would create a climate whereby an established pressure-group would be invited into the media spotlight and perhaps trigger a referendom (if they dont step down gracefully). Alternatively, the royals could simply be payed off, preferably after a neg-PR campaign to reduce their price.
The longer you leave it, the easier/cheaper it gets, as life moves on, britain becomes increasingly mlticultural & the grey-vote gradually changes to a new cohort. But to do it now, imo, would take a really nasty piece of neg-PR. like extreme corruption -stealing from a loved public charity, necrophilia. something like that.
Alex,
I take your point about the case for removal of the Royal Family. Why not go further and dispose of all of the titles, baubles and the rest of the left-overs from a more feudal age? The individual would become transformed from a ‘subject of the Crown’ to a ‘citizen’; the rights and responsibilities thus conferred upon the individual would have far-reaching consequences for society. Although it is not fashionable to talk about the Class system anymore, it has not gone away; the individuals that make up the different classes of society may change, the classes themselves may change, but the system remains. The U.K. is a place where people do not believe that people are, at base, fundamentally equal. Rather, people are comfortable with a layered, hierarchical society where everyone knows their place. Tampering with this may well release unanticipated social upheaval.
One thing, you make the point about the
“…individual being emphasised…”
then state that
“…every person is a cog in the machine…”
This would imply that every individual would wish to be such a “cog in the machine” at all times. I don’t think that that state of affairs would ever come to pass. Analogies to machine-like societies conjure up visions of Soviet-era Communism.
Ultimately, society in the U.K. is tribal. The individual is classified and allocated to a group by society. Politics consists of managing the competing claims of these groups, and allocating economic resources amongst them. The political elites have inherited the mantle of lords of the manor who look after the peasants in a paternalistic manner, out of a sense of noblesse-oblige. In return, the political elites hold themselves to be the supreme moral authority in society. It’ll be a huge effort to change what has coalesced over the best part of a thousand years.
I applaud your effort in thinking the big ideas. It’s nice that we can think about and discuss principles rather than process. As more people start to think, reason and question, I think that they will become more intellectually mature, challenge the supposed wisdom of the political elites and so change the structure of society.
I’m not holding my breath for change any time soon, though…
