Hello! I was wondering if anyone could recommend a school for children with aspergers/HFA. I have two children with HFA. One is only 3, and I have him in a special ed preschool program that I am happy with, but I learned with my 6 year old that our area falls short of meeting needs once the kids reach elementary school. I am currently homeschooling my 6 year old, and while it is working, I'm not sure how long I can keep this up, and I can't help but feel limited as to what I can arrange and provide for him on my own. Once my younger son is added to the homeschool mix after preschool, I'm not sure if things will improve because they will be older (and more mature?) or if things will be more difficult to manage because there will be two of them to educate/socialize/etc.

Anyway, we have been wanting to relocate for quite some time, regardless of what I wrote above. We're really not happy with where we live for a multitude of reasons. If anyone could recommend a good school for children on the autism spectrum, I would love to research it. It would have to be a place with small class sizes and fairly custom curriculum. Even some sort of homeschool/school hybrid model or a heavily supported homeschool program for children with special needs could work. I hope that I am not asking for too much.

Thank you! :D

Gee I wish I had an early diagnosis AND a special school to attend for HFA and Aspergers kids. Then I wouldn't have spent so much time in the principal's office getting strapped for misbehaving, stimming and disobeying because I had a merciless private school to attend.

Getting diagnosed only 3 months ago @ 42 years old didn't help either.

Are you looking for a private school that only handles ASD children/teens?

In my area, that type of school is $12K-$15K/year K-8, and goes up to $15K-$20K/year for 9-12 grade. I live in the midwest. It's probably cheaper in South and more on the Coasts.

If I had that kind of cash, I would call Cleveland Clinic or Kennedy Kreger and ask for recommendations for schools.
