Hi five! Just remember what you are looking forward to about it. Have a stimming object if needed.

I very highly recommend marijuana. It works for going somewhere new, meeting new people, going places you've been many times, being awake, sleeping... there pretty much isn't a time when it can't enhance your life. :P

Also, I wouldn't worry too much at all about being awkward at an anime group... chances are there are going to be a lot of awkward people at an anime group... because it's an anime group. There may even be other aspies there with a special interest in anime. Chances are pretty good there will be, I'd say, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed and unaware of their AS I bet if you look around the room and consciously observe people you will spot AS traits here and there amongst them and realize you're absolutely not alone in being a socially awkward anime fanatic.

I don't know how useful this is to you, but I find that when I get anxious about going somewhere like that, it helps me to remind myself that I don't have to go - that it's my choice and I'm in control of that decision, and if I feel really terrible I can just stay home. (This has never actually happened, because knowing I could stay home is always enough to make me less anxious and enable me to go.)

Anyway, drawing classes sound great, I hope you have lots of fun!

Maybe try meditating for 20 minutes before you go? It's a great way to clear your head and reduce anxiety. If you've never done it, or don't really know how, go download the free guided meditation lesson mp3s from http://www.freemeditation.com and give them a listen. It's very, very, calming. 8)

Some people get anxious or paranoid when smoking weed, so it is probably better to smoke weed some time BEFORE going to the meetup.

Oh, and Indica varieties of weed are better for stress and anxiety. Sativa is for when you are actually drawing.
