Now I know and am fully aware that most people on the Autistic Spectrum tend to like routine or sticking to what we are used to but has anyone been in this situation.

You go to a Restaurant or a Cafe and on the way you are so adamant that you are going to try something different. You have got it into your head you are going to try something different. Then when you get to the Cafe or Restaurant you end up picking the same thing you have every time. Because you feel you have to have that and that is reason you have gone to that Restaurant in the first place.

You know I think this is fine. I go to the same hotel in Italy, stay in the same room, eat the same food from the restaurant. Why? Because I love it! Sometimes trying new things is really good and pays off but other times it is just really nice to enjoy something you will know you will enjoy.

In my case, this only happens because I am kosher. Well not too strictly, I just avoid pork and sea food. But, if I take this in combination with the fact that English isn't my native language (I am from Russia), I would have to be asking whether various unknown words are vegetables (which they usually are but I have to ask to be sure) and I guess I am not comfortable asking too many questions. Perhaps I should buy english-russian dictionary and take it to the restaurants with me. And the other problem is that they don't have too much exotic food anyway, so its hard to find something truly new unless I go to someplace fancy which I can't afford going too often.

I don't really have that problem, but that's because if I decide to try something new in a familiar restaurant I decide that well on advance, go through the options what that new food can be and what can go wrong. Then, I only go to the restaurant after I'm sure that my mind can handle the change and the stress brought by it. I suppose some would call this overplanning, but it works for me.
