I know the idea that autism is related to schizophrenia has been refutted. But what about childhood disintegrative disorder? The fact that it doesn't happen from birth but few years after birth suggests a dynamics of mental illness rather than developmental disorder. That, plus when I read wikipedia page about it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Childhood ... e_disorder), it says
Quote:
Some children describe or appear to be reacting to hallucinations
Of course you might say that DSM 4 was wrong in classifying it together with autism. But then again, kids with Childhood Disintegrative Disorder show the autism traits too -- which is precisely why it was put there.
So what do you make of it? Does it imply a relation between autism and schizophrenia, or is it a coincidence of the same child being affected by both (unrelated) disorders, or what?
