Is it just me or do these sub-types seem problematic ? Surely there is more going on with ASD than use of functional language or intellectual development?

I think the criteria may be useful to estimate extent of support required and prospects of independent life - but they give no insight at all to what's happening inside an autistic mind.

These "subtypes" are equivalent to the things the DSM 5 says that ASD can occur "with or without," i.e. "With or without accompanying intellectual impairment" and "With or without accompanying language impairment". The ICD-11 "subtypes" are just a way of listing all the possible combinations of these specifiers.

Here is a more complete version of the DSM 5 criteria, including the "Specify if: ..." section.

Thanks for fixing the link . To be honest I'm struggling to see where I'd fit into the ICD 11 subtypes . I have probable learning difficulty , but not disorder of intellectual development .

I'm not sure about use of functional language. I meet the autism level for social communication ,but not for social interaction. I'm not sure that would relate to functional language though.
