Yeah, so my psychiatrist told me she knows I'm on the spectrum, but she didn't like the idea of putting another label on me on top of bipolar...

Many people have mentioned AS to me and I've been given AQ and RAADS and everything points to it like my intense interests, past social skills problems, meltdowns, etc...

But I can't truly claim it because of no "official" testing I guess... Sigh... Maybe someday I can afford an evaluation...

That's actually a pretty useful statement from her.

Have you thought about why she might be holding back about a diagnosis? It might be because resources are limited, but another interpretation may be that she might be pressured to drop you as a patient if you get an autism diagnosis. It's becoming apparent on this side of the pond that autistics are routinely dropped by their therapists when they get a diagnosis. Told to look for someone who specializes in autism, but, surprise, surprise, all of them work privately and most can't afford them.

We're apparently incurable

It is the same on this side of the pond. My kids had to change therapist after being diagnosed because of insurance. We now have to drive 20 miles for the nearest in network therapist.

I don't think that's the problem because sitting here talking to another aspie who's diagnosed (who lives in my building) she has the same psychiatrist doctor as me.

What you need to know... Is it possible you are on the spectrum and not suffering from bipolar at all? This could make a big difference to you. It means you can reduce or come off certain medication and won't suffer the side effects of them. From what I have heard from youtubers, is that to some it made a world of difference in their daily lives.

I have a friend who is bipolar. He is on medication. He is "Full on" in his ways in that.... How best to describe him... The same way as a 2 year old goes from one thing straight to the next? He is an extremely nice individual and a good friend. I have not seen him at either extreme as he is on the medication. I won't give his name or username on another forum. I also know another gentleman who has bipolar, and he is my brothers ex.wifes partner. Another gentleman as he is a genuine kind individual. It is sad they both struggle.

I used to think bipolar had something to do with reading glasses!

I can not judge your case but I suspect of when there are multiple conditions autism as the underlying condition is often overlooked.
