Quote:
There are many reasons why someone can legitimately ask for a refund: if the item is faulty, if the item is the wrong size, if the item was ordered while drunk (though many retailers don't accept the validity of this reason).

However, asking for a refund based on the fact the seller is autistic is not a reason that any person could consider valid. Yet, a woman who sells customised glitter mugs has been faced with just this request.

That customer is a prime example why there should be exceptions to any "Anti-Doxing" rule.

I second this.

Most 1st world countries have disability discrimination laws now.
The Autistic seller or, in the case that the seller is an employee has the right to refuse to give a refund
if the basis of the request is solely because of disability discrimination.

In some countries, the person who is discriminating may even have broken laws and thus could
potentially face prosecution if the police were involved.

Disability discrimination is like other forms of discrimination and protected by law.
In the island that i live, a few months ago someone verbally attacked someone with racial discrimination.
That person was prosecuted for racial discrimination.

I think it was good that they were too!
I also think that now the discrimination laws have been updated, people who discriminate against others can face fines, community service and perhaps even imprisonment!

I know of another incident, on the same island where some drunk yobs (the island has a big drinking culture) verbally assaulted some people with low functioning autism who were carol singing. And the police were called and the yobs were arrested and also charged with disability discrimination.

I believe the culprits were forced to go to court, and then charged a big fine and perhaps ordered to do community service for their ignorant behaviour. Make them think about doing it again and publically shame them.

Just out of interest, just to clarify. are you referring to the original story about the person who is high functioning selling mugs as a scam or what i have written about various people being prosecuted for discrimination.

As a response to both scenarios. And not to appear unfriendly.

I would just like to say in the former case, I have read the article and have to say that what is written in the article doesn't appear to have any scam involved, although of course such an article posted on facebook could be used to attract attention and sympathy from people in order to boost sales. As fortunately, Autism is supported by many people in our day and age so some may be happy to support. So sure, it is possible. Although if there is no evidence apart from the article itself. I am not so sure how anyone could make that claim without further evidence.

If, however, you are saying that what i have written is a scam. I am not sure as to how to answer you.
As i have not asked for anything in what i have written, nor is there any way that i can capitalise out of what i have written. Even if someone were to write an answer on a forum such as this one, there is limited user base and thus very little that can be capitalised out of from doing so.

Both the examples that i give I learnt of because they cases of incidents that occurred in the island that i live, and were printed in the local paper that serves the small island. Thanks

I've come across several people suggesting it was a scam . If so there's been little in the way of media articles saying so. Perhaps if it was a scam, piggybacking off autism for personal gain is seen as ok behaviour.

I would have expected at least some sites run by people with ASD to have denounced this if it was a scam. It's been suggested it was to gain free advertising.

“customised glitter mugs” “scam” “autistic” . No Google results .

“customised glitter mugs” “autistic” “free advertising” No Google results .

It could be a scam. Alternatively it could be someone spreading false rumours it's a scam to discredit the seller. It would not be beyond the bounds of possibility for someone to have done that.

I am not naive. I understand there are attention seekers that pray on the sympathies of people.

Doing that is as low as one can get without being criminal against people. Also autistics are disproportionately victims of gaslighting. That it why there had better be a damn good reason before accusing or speculating a person is deliberately creating a fake anti autistic incident.

I've done a bit of digging and this what I have come up with so far.

Go to this Facebook profile and read their post that starts 'Woke up to death threats up in my inbox'

This person is the one who called out the seller in a private group but it got lost in translation and caused a lot of confusion.

I could post names but the link is all you need

Scottish law has a verdict of 'Not proven'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_proven

I would suggest that fits here as to the veracity or not of the woman being asked to cancel an order. We live in age where people will scam, but equally so we live in an age where people will manipulate things to discredit a genuine story.

I get it...

Scientists say that Global Warming is caused by human activity ... deniers say it isn't.

Mr. Obama says he was born in America ... deniers say he wasn't.

NASA says they landed men on the Moon ... deniers say they didn't.

Autistic artist claims to be a target of discrimination ... deniers say she isn't.

Yeah ... okay ... moving right along ...

I've lost a little more faith in humanity just reading that story.
