I'm back after having trouble logging in for awhile...

Anyway I had a meltdown downstairs in my apartment building... Then a couple of elderly ladies took me aside... Saying the whole building was talking about my "obvious" Asperger's... And she had a grandson that had meltdowns and if I need to have someone to talk to just say so.

Anyway my psychiatrist now even admits the autism but said she didn't want me to have "another label" while my talk therapist talks as if I'm officially diagnosed with it.

It's getting to the point I just want evaluated to know 100 percent but with people in my apartments gossiping about my possible diagnosis... Aye aye aye...

How's the job search coming along?

I don't think it's totally a bad thing for the old ladies to encourage you to talk to them.

I used to speak to old ladies on park benches when I was quite a young kid---as young as about 7. I think they knew there was something "different" about me.

I have an interview tomorrow with an AmeriCorps in Ann Arbor but idk... I'm waiting to hear back from another AmeriCorps position in Wisconsin that said I was a "strong candidate"

What is this problem some shrinks seem to have with giving a person "another label"?

After all, many autistic people feel that whatever co-occurring conditions they may have (depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, etc.) are caused, at least in part, by the stress of being autistic in a neurotypical world.

Do you feel that many of your problems are caused by having to deal with fundamental underlying differences between you and most other people, and the resulting pressures to conform to very unnatural norms? If so, have you expressed this to your psychiatrist?

Basically yes.... The meltdowns especially, I feel that if I could learn to control those better I would fit into the world better.

Oh no.... I've had that "everyone in [insert group] is talking about you" thing. It's mortifying. At least this old lady was supportive.

Then wouldn't a possible autism diagnosis be relevant, as a means of identifying (at least some of) the reasons why you don't fit into the world? Have you ever discussed it with your psychiatrist in those terms?
