How do you deal with people criticizing your way of walking?

It's getting annoying, people say that walking properly gives you superiority, but why would people like me want approval from others?

"great minds talk about ideas. average minds talk about events. mediocre minds talk about people." (eleanor roosevelt) treat the people who talk about you, as having mediocre mentality. you wouldn't let yourself get upset if a dog barked at you, would you?

My wife used to comment on my walk in a factual ,non hurtful way. My stepdaughter has said I walk like I'm drunk. My assessment report says I'm awkward when I walk.

when i was little and sis was a little bigger, she told me i "walked like a girl." in the army, i was told i "walked like a f*gg*t." drill sergeants forbade me from marching with the rest of the company during D&C. was sent to KP duty instead, where i stuffed my face with all the leftover food before it was trashed.

I'll I know is that you can tell by the way I use my walk that I'm a woman's man, no time to talk. Actually, I probably have time I'm just not interested :) (Also considered going with "Me, I'm just a lawnmower you can tell by the way I walk")

No one has ever commented on how I walk that I recall. Though I do remember my parents being concerned when I was young that I was pigeon-toed, but I don't think it was ever a problem for me. I could run fast.

My walking is so awkward it caused one of my legs to become misaligned as I grew and I had to get corrective surgery when I became an adult.

When I sprained my ankle at 12 years old I've been walking on the inside of my feet ever since, to avoid my ankle twisting again. My feet have now adjusted that way so it's extremely painful and uncomfortable to walk flat-footed again. But it doesn't affect my posture, and it only notices if you actually look closely at my feet which not many people do.

I just point out the fact that I have balance problems. That usually shuts them up.

I would describe my walk as a "shambling gait". To start with, I had arthritis in my hip from the age of 16. Had a hip replacement 12 years ago, but I also have peripheral neuropathy, which means I can't feel my feet, and bad balance due to inner ear problems.
My walking is a disaster. I don't get comments if I use a stick, but I don't often use a stick as I tend to tip over it. What I really hate is when people " suggest" that I'm drunk.
The people who make these comments must be so perfect!

People don't usually comment on my gait, but if they did, I could always say it's got to do with being hit by a car when I was 13 and breaking my femur. I'd imagine that'd shut them up.

From my assessment report:

Quote:
"You have always had problems with balance, and your coordination is poor"

I tend to swerve quite a lot when walking, and am not good at judging the distance between myself and another person.
